12 Movie Girlfriends Who Would Suck in Real Life

6. Princess Leia Organa – Star Wars (1977-)

This franchise needs no introduction as the rebel forces fight against a fascist dictatorial regime led by Darth Vader. Princess Leia is a feisty radical leader who carries out her own skirmishes against the Empire.

Why Princess Leia is the perfect girlfriend: You folks do remember her in the gold bikini right? Do I need to say more? Well, there’s the fact that she is royalty, so if you’re one of those people looking to climb up the social ladder, Leia is your way in. Personally, the reason I like her the best is that she is fiercely independent and she can watch her own back like she’s a fighter through and through and who does not like a strong independent woman.

Why Princess Leia would suck in real life: She’s too uptight and serious for her own good. So she probably won’t approve of you being the immature one in the relationship either. Also, she kissed her brother on the mouth despite knowing on some level that he was her brother? That’s weird unless you are Cersei Lannister.

5. Charlotte – Lost in Translation (2003)

Directed by Sofia Coppola, this film about existential ennui follows Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson as two tourists in Japan who meet and develop a relationship.

Why Charlotte is the perfect girlfriend: She’s played by Scarlett Johansson, are you kidding me! I’d date her in a heartbeat. Also, Charlotte is a Yale graduate so you can expect her to keep you on your toes. She has also got the entire French aesthetic down to a dot because she lounges around in her underwear, smokes cigarettes and stares out of windows, just what you want in your average intellectual, sexually charged relationship. Also, she is pretty well connected since she has friends in Japan and who does not like well connected attractive people?

Why Charlotte would suck in real life: Charlotte is snarky and while intelligence is a charming quality in a relationship, it’s a major turn off if the other person is snarky about it. However, most importantly, Charlotte will likely not confront her problems, so if you are having relationship problems, she won’t face up to it but will try and find escape, like Murray, was her escape. So if the two of you are having relationship problems, you will likely find her with someone else, somewhere else rather than with you trying to work out the problem, and that is a difficult thing to overcome in real life.

4. Mia Wallace – Pulp Fiction (1994)

Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece about gangsters, and stolen briefcases and a boxer down on his luck remain one of the most stylish and most quotable films of Hollywood. Mia Wallace is the crime lord Marsellus Wallace’s wife. Uma Thruman plays the role to a degree of perfection.

Why Mia is the perfect girlfriend: She is wild, she is fun, she does drugs so if you’re into that then you ought to get along famously. She is a no-nonsense sort of a girl who enjoys silence and comfort in relationships. She is also rather knowledgeable about pop culture so you’re in for a good time with her, and she will probably take you dancing as well.

Why Mia would suck in real life: She’s a bit too wild, she consciously ironic and her jokes are actually quite lame. You’d also have to pry a lot of things out of her as she’s usually reticent enjoying her ‘silence’. She will also most likely steal your heroin out of your coat pocket, which, I don’t do heroin but I am definitely not okay with! Also if you’re out on a date with her, there’s a good chance that you might have to inject her with adrenaline before the date is over to save her from a possible overdose. So if that’s your idea of fun for the night to get your blood pumping, then, by all means, be my guest, but personally, I’d prefer someone a bit more mellow than Mia Wallace. Oh and not to mention you might get beaten up by her crime lord husband if you ever give her a foot massage!

3. Jennifer Parker – Back to the Future Trilogy (1985-1990)

This science fiction film explores Marty’s life as he travels back in 1955 and meets his future parents and accidentally becomes his mother’s love interest. I am not even going to go into the Oedipal dilemma of the entire thing. Jennifer Parker is played by Claudia Wells in the movie.

Why Jennifer is the perfect girlfriend: She is willing to risk her own life to warn Marty and that shows courage which cannot be ignored. She is encouraging and supportive, all things we look for in a partner. She’s unfazed by the time travel aspect of things so she is quite open-minded and she is enthusiastic about the possibility of a sexual encounter so that’s another thing to appreciate.

Why Jennifer would suck in real life: Jennifer might seem smart and supportive, but later turns out to be rather dull. However, the major turnoff is that she is very nagging and the fact that Marty doesn’t pay heed to it makes us think that she has always been nagging and we definitely do not want clingy nagging partners, no thank you very much!

2. Annie Hall – Annie Hall (1977)

Starring Diane Keaton, this Woody Allen movie is often said to be a manifestation of the director’s feelings towards Keaton.

Why Annie is the perfect girlfriend: Annie is ditzy and is bound to keep things interesting, she has a melodious voice and is always eager to learn and be a better person and is that not what relationships are about? To grow to be a better person and to help your partner do the same.

Why Annie would suck in real life: She is too much of a drifter. Annie would never settle, she would float in and out of your life and more likely than not, in her quest to grow as a person she would outgrow you. So any future you might conceive of with Annie is bleak.

1. Anna Scott – Notting Hill (1999)

Starring Julia Roberts as Anna Scott, this film is about an actress who falls in love with a bookshop owner Thacker. Their tumultuous relationship forms the plot of the film.

Why Anna is the perfect girlfriend: It’s Julia Roberts, the question is redundant. Anna is a huge movie star so dating a celebrity is ticked off the list. She is impulsive and can defend herself, she kisses people soon after meeting them so that has to be a plus. She will take you to movie openings and let you inspect her breasts and you can even have fun while she is rehearsing. So there’s a lot of pros.

Why Anna would suck in real life: She is dismissive, she cannot assert herself in front of her boyfriend, she hides the fact that she has a boyfriend, she plays with Thacker’s emotions for most parts of the film, she is really a la-la celebrity who seems oblivious to others’ sentiments and feelings. Really a poor choice for a relationship partner, you’re bound to be miserable with Anna Scott, even if she is just a girl asking a boy to love her.
