However, what feels good to them isn’t necessarily approved of by the people around them. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Preach, Pray, Love Plot Synopsis
Charlie Mega is a successful rapper known for her songs that are dipped in vulgarity and violence and talk of drugs and other vices. Her songs reflect the nature of her life, which is full of indulgences, and while she makes one bad decision after another, her success and money often shield her from any consequences. But eventually she hits her lowest point and is sent to prison. This is where she sits with her thoughts and finally reflects on what she has made of her life. She wishes to change and turns to the Bible to find the answers she seeks. One of the inmates tells her about a young pastor named Kyrus, who often visits other inmates, especially the elderly, and has greatly helped them.

While Charlie doesn’t talk to him, she watches Kyrus from a distance and is heartened by his actions. Soon, she is released from prison, though she remains on probation and must complete mandatory community service. When she returns home, she is immediately made aware of how far behind she is with her new album. While she wishes to take a break, her label pushes her to release new music because they don’t want to lose any more money than they already have due to her legal issues. Later that night, Charlie looks up Kyrus’ church and starts visiting it. Meanwhile, Kyrus, who has found great success with his new church, faces a daunting task.
For now, he is renting a shared space for his sermons. But he has the opportunity to buy a property that he can turn into his church. For the money, he needs a bank loan, but it comes with certain strings attached. His co-workers and friends also remind Kyrus that he must get married, as a single pastor doesn’t have the same standing as a married one. They believe this move will also attract more people to his church, and right now, numbers are what will really help them. While Kyrus wants to get married and settle down, he doesn’t want to end up with the wrong person just to get married. In fact, he loathes the thought of it, that is, until he meets Charlie.
Do Charlie and Kyrus End Up Together?
When Charlie and Kyrus meet, they feel an immediate and unprecedented connection. Neither has felt understood by anyone else before. So, when they find that unexpected understanding with each other, it makes them feel happy and safe. Their feelings escalate, and it soon becomes clear to them that there is much more between them than just friendship. But while they make each other happy, their union does not sound so good to the people around them. Kyrus, in particular, bears the brunt of it, as he is reminded of Charlie’s difficult past. And while it’s good that she has turned toward religion and wants to be reformed and redeemed, the churchgoers will not be happy with the idea of their pastor marrying a woman who has a history of indulging in drugs and serving time in prison.

Despite all the pressure, Kyrus remains steadfast in his love for Charlie. He refuses to bow to others’ expectations, citing that no one has really bothered to get to know her, and they have no idea what she is really like. When it becomes clear that he will not leave her, his friend, Kevin, decides to take matters into his own hands. He visits Charlie and explains the severity of the situation to her. He reveals that Kyrus is on the brink of losing his Church and his flock because of his desire to be with her. He doesn’t mince his words when he blames Charlie for this situation. When she offers help with the money, Kevin points out that it was never about the money.
By the end of the conversation, Charlie is convinced that she must break up with Kyrus for his own good, and that is exactly what she does. This confuses Kyrus because he thought things were going really well with them. Before this, they had shared a kiss, which was photographed by a security guard and created quite a stir online. At the time, the couple laughed it off, reading all the comments about how Charlie had bagged a hot pastor. So, it doesn’t make sense to him why she is suddenly upset about them belonging to different worlds and calls off their relationship. The heartbreak hits him hard, and when Kevin realizes how hurt his friend is, he comes clean to Kyrus about the true origins of Charlie’s changed feelings.
The young pastor immediately thinks about going to Charlie to clear everything up. But before he can do that, he discovers that she has released a song that has brought back all the people who had previously left his church because of their disapproval of their relationship. As things take a shockingly good turn and all inhibitions about their relationship are gone, Charlie returns to Kyrus. She tells him about the inspiration behind her song and her intentions for the next phase of her music. Kyrus is happy that she has found the calling she had been waiting for and converges his own path with hers. One year later, they are married and leading an ever-increasing congregation together.
Does Kyrus Get the Arena for the Church? Is Charlie Fired by Her Label? Does She Continue Making Music?
When Charlie returns from prison, she realizes that she has lost the taste to keep making the music she had become infamous for. In the studio, as she sings, those songs feel entirely alien to her. She cannot connect with them at all, which also affects her performance. Eventually,y she concludes that she has outgrown her old form of music. Now she wants to focus on creating songs that speak to her and through which she can express herself more authentically to her listeners. Her producer, Money, encourages her to explore it further, and they even create a new song together.

Singing this one gives her the contentment she had been looking for. The problem is that her label doesn’t like it one bit. They think she has strayed from her brand, and if she switches sides so dramatically, she will lose her fan base, or at least a considerable part of it. When Charlie refuses to budge, they drop her, leaving her free to make whatever kind of music she wants. Free to lean into her instincts without any reservations, she creates a song that is pulled from the depth of her heart. With no label to release it the conventional way, she posts the song on social media, and even she doesn’t anticipate how quickly it goes viral.
This shows that while she may have lost her previous fans, she will gain new ones who see her through her songs and understand her on a deeper level. The song resonates with the people so much that they are drawn to Kyrus’ church. They arrive for the next sermon in droves, thereby reinstating his status as an influential pastor. The interconnected nature of these circumstances convinces Charlie that she and Kyrus are meant to be together, not just romantically but spiritually. Now she knows what she should do with her music. So, she returns to the pastor and tells him she wants to make more music, not simply for the sake of making an album and making more money from it.
She genuinely wants to create songs that help people find their faith and calling. Kyrus is happy to hear about it and, not surprisingly, agrees. This collaboration turns out to be a massive success, as one year later we see the true results. They are welcomed to the stage before hundreds of people who have connected with Charlie’s music and Kyrus’ sermons. The fact that this is not happening at the rented place confirms that things have taken a turn for the better and that he has finally secured the building he had been vying for. Thus, the couple has found love, contentment, and success, all while refusing to bow to others’ impressions of them and staying true to themselves.
