With Netflix’s Lyttanya Shannon-directed ‘Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare’ delving deep into the unsettling online ordeal Kirat Assi endured, we get a documentary unlike any other. That’s because it incorporates not just archival footage and dramatic recreations but also exclusive interviews to really underscore possibly the longest catfish scam in history — 9 years. Its primary victim was Kirat since she was the only one who was emotionally taken advantage of, but there was also Bobby Jandu, whose identity was stolen, and his wife, Sanjeev “Sanj.”
Sanj Jandu Never Once Questioned Bobby’s Involvement
Although it’s unclear precisely when London native Sanj first came across Kenyan-British Bobby, we do know they had actually fallen head over heels in love by the time 2011 rolled around. In fact, that’s the year he got down on one knee for her/the love of his life, just for them to tie the knot a year later before welcoming two kids into this world — a son, followed by a daughter. Therefore, when Kirat showed up at their doorstep in a frantic state in 2018, accusing the young family patriarch of having been involved with her for years, Sanj believed in his innocence.
As per Sanj’s own account, Bobby had never once given her a reason to question him throughout their ups and downs, so she stood by him once he asserted he had no idea who Kirat was. The fact the latter then went on to detail the area of this happily married mom’s parents’ home before indicating that she thought of her son as her stepson only reiterated her feelings. After all, unaware at the time that she had fallen victim to catfishing at the hands of her own younger cousin/Bobby’s younger brother’s ex, Simran Bhogal, the whole situation was just scary for her.
Sanj and Bobby Are Still Happily Married
When the Jandus ultimately learned about Bobby’s identity being stolen to manipulate, exploit, and catfish Kirat, they were absolutely baffled by it in every sense of the term. However, it’s undeniable this whole experience brought them closer together owing to the understanding, trust, respect, and confidence they displayed in one another when it mattered most. Therefore, with a 9-year-old son as well as a 5-year-old daughter, they continue to reside in the Brighton area of the UK, where she has since even evolved into an author with the help of his unwavering support.
Sanj is a Woman of Many Professional Hats
While it’s true that Sanj has been a corporate employee since at least 2017, she recently spread her wings as a writer and actually managed to finish her first children’s book by the summer of 2024. The eldest kid of her and Bobby’s has cerebral palsy and needs to use a wheelchair as well as other mobility aids on a daily basis. She was tired of not having him represented in any space involving kids, so she penned ‘An Adventure a Day,’ which follows a child with a disability as they go on about their daily lives while also showcasing their family dynamic and how normal everything is/can be.

Therefore, today, she serves as a Clinical Pharmacist at WellBN, a Locum Independent Prescriber at e-Surgery, as well as a rising dermatologist with her own practice in Brighton. She actually stepped into this world of dermatology after careful consideration, combining her pharmacy background with her passion for skincare in every way. On a more personal level, it’s imperative to note that Sanj is also a travel enthusiast, a designer currently renovating her beautiful family home, and a proud daughter, wife, as well as mother.
