Somali to Mori no Kamisama Season 1: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ comes from a visually striking manga that has truly touched the hearts of those who have read it. It has a deep, fully fleshed out story that slowly unfolds itself with each arc. It draws a very clear picture of an anarchic society in which “beastmen” of all sorts live peace until they run into humans one day. And humans, being the way they are, without even thinking twice, wage a brutal war against them. But after being heavily outnumbered, the humans are the ones who suffer.

‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ is not a war anime like ‘Attack on Titan‘; it, instead, focuses on the aftermath of a gruesome war. In a world drowning in despair and hate, an innocent relationship sheds a ray of hope. It is one of those unique slice-of-life anime that stays with you for a very long time. So if you’re looking for an anime that will calm your soul, give this one a shot. With that said, here is everything you need to know about it.

Somali and the Forest Spirit Plot:

‘Somali and the Forest Spirit’ is set in a world where spirits, goblins and all kinds of strange mythical creatures rule the world. Humans are brutally persecuted and ostracized from society. All this reaches a point where humans reach the brink of extinction.

One day, a little lone human girl ends up meeting a golem and though both of them belong to two opposing species, they end up forming an unlikely bond. With this, they set out on a journey to not only transform their own lives but to change the whole world around them.

Somali and the Forest Spirit Characters:

Golem

Voiced by Daisuke Ono (‘Air’, ‘Blue Exorcist‘), Golem is the main character of the series. After a chance encounter, he ends up meeting a human girl named Somali and develops a father-daughter relationship with her. In appearance, the Golem seems quite intimidating but unlike the others of his kind, he has a heart of gold. Not even once does he think about harming the little girl and even takes her under his shadow to protect her from the world outside. He sports a warrior-like uniform which consists of a grey jacket that has several leather straps on it.

Almost all the time, he also carries a sword with him. Before he meets Somali, he serves as the Guardian of the Forest but he later decides to leave all of his obligations behind just to look for Somali’s parents. Throughout their journey, just to protect her from others of his kind, he keeps Somali’s identity a secret. They get along so well that after a point, Somali starts looking at him as her parent figure and stops thinking too much about her real parents.

Somali

Voiced by Inori Minase (‘The Quintessential Quintuplets‘, ‘Black Bullet‘), Somali is a young girl who gets lost and runs into the Golem. In a world where most humans are oppressed by other superior beings, she turns out to be quite lucky as the Golem she runs into protects her instead of harming her in any way.

When it comes to her appearance, she has black hair and bright golden eyes. She sports a black hooded jacket and can usually be seen with a big smile on her face. She loves to eat and is always curious about the world around her. Every time she spots something that piques her interest, she gets all excited about it. She conceals her identity as a human and as she travels with the Golem, she gets really attached to him. She even forgets about her real parents later on and looks up to the Golem as a father figure.
