The Sinner S03: What to Expect?

The Sinner Season 3

‘The Sinner’ is an anthology crime drama that takes a fresh approach to storytelling by spinning a narrative that focuses on ‘why-dunnit’ instead of ‘who-dunnit,’ which is usually the case for most crime shows. The show follows Detective Ambrose, who investigates the motive behind dark and brutal crimes. It first premiered August 2, 2017 on USA Network.

The mystery show has been adapted from the eponymous novel by award-winning author Petra Hammesfahrthe. ‘The Sinner’ has been developed for screen by showrunner Derek Simonds. Antonio Campos, Tucker Gates, Brad Anderson, and Adam Bernstein serve as the directors.

Upon its premiere, ‘The Sinner’ garnered rave reviews from the audiences as well as critics. What was initially supposed to conclude as a close-ended mini-series got renewed for another season owing to its increasing popularity. And just like fine wine, the show has displayed a tendency to get better with each season. It currently holds an average rating of 90% (Season 1) and 97% (Season 2) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The twisted and complex crime thriller has been hailed across the world for its visual appeal, gripping storyline that is packed with gasp-inducing twists and turns, coupled with smashing performances from its polished ensemble and a soundtrack that is dreamy and daunting at the same time. Season 1 of the show has received multiple award nominations including 2 Golden Globes (best mini-series) and one Emmy (Jessica Biel for best actress). The Sinner Season 3 Plot: What is it About?

Since it’s an anthology series, ‘The Sinner’ introduces new crime cases in every season.

Season 1 of ‘The Sinner’ focuses on Cora Tannetti, a doting mother and an understanding wife, who is enjoying a beach day with her family. Amid the usual chaos, she spots a guy a few steps away from her and suddenly attacks him, repeatedly stabbing the man with a fruit knife. On being questioned, Cora pleads guilty but reveals that she does not even know him. Detective Harry Ambrose feels there’s something more to the story and embarks on a quest to figure out the motive behind the ghastly crime, unravelling forgotten secrets.

Season 2 follows a similar pattern. It features Detective Harry Ambrose, investigating a case involving a 13-year-old boy, who is arrested on the charge of poisoning his own parents. Ambrose immediately takes interest in the case and delves into the boy’s memories and past, hoping to find the motive. During the course of his investigation, Ambrose makes startling a discovery that complicates the case even further. Ambrose, himself, is haunted by his dark past, and the trauma has led to complications in his marriage.

In season 3, we see Detective Ambrose on the fringes of Dorchester, tackling a mysterious case of an unfortunate car accident involving a well-reputed man, Jamie. Just when everything starts to make sense, Jamie’s college friend Nick makes an entry and turns his world upside down. He is hiding a secret that could destroy Jamie. But what is it? Upon investigation, Ambrose unearths a concealed crime that puts him into perilous state, wherein he realizes that this is probably the most disturbing case in his entire career.
