HBO announced on Friday that the upcoming sixth season of the comedy series ‘Silicon Valley‘ will be the show’s last. The last season, which is currently in pre-production, will consist of seven episodes, reports The Wrap. HBO previously hinted that the series would be coming to an end with the upcoming season. The series also earned two Golden Globe nominations in the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy category.
“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us. We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season Six seems to be the fitting conclusion,” series executive producers and showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg are quoted as saying by Deadline. “We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”
The abbreviated finale will be the shortest season of the show which premiered on April 6, 2014, on HBO. ‘Silicon Valley’ tells the story of tech entrepreneur Richard Hendricks (played by Thomas Middleditch). The plot centers on his data-compression startup named ‘Pied Piper’ as well as its turbulent journey to find a foothold in a cut-throat industry. Created by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, the series earned critical acclaim and huge fan following for its hilarious take on the new gold rush in Silicon Valley
“It’s been quite a ride since the pilot, when Richard Hendricks’ algorithm first caught the eye of Peter Gregory and Gavin Belson,” Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming is quoted by Deadline. “In the meantime, our culture’s entire relationship with technology has been transformed, and Alec and Mike’s meticulous storytelling has managed to stay ahead of it every step of the way. This type of comedic chemistry, both behind and in front of the camera, is rarely found. Silicon Valley is just the beginning of many more collaborations with these hilarious writers and performers, as well as our standout crew.”
The show features Thomas Middleditch as Richard, Zach Woods as Jared, Kumail Nanjiani as Dinesh, Martin Starr as Gilfoyle, Amanda Crew as Monica, Jimmy O. Yang as Jian-Yang, Suzanne Cryer as Laurie Bream, Matt Ross as Gavin Belson, and Josh Brener as Big Head.
