10 Most Erotic Movies of 2016

5. Passengers

Sexy stars don’t really make a good movie, but this list isn’t about good cinema. It’s about sexy cinema and Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence getting it on in space is as sexy as it gets. What else are you to do in outer space in Morten Tyldum’s film? Get it on of course! And they do it, a ton! A film that lacks in all other aspects but is generously endowed in this department, the film should also be watched for some stellar acting by these new actors who are taking the industry by storm.

4. Staying Vertical

This extremely bold French film is about a filmmaker who has to balance raising a child while seeking inspiration for his film. Bonnard is a bisexual man and the director known for his outrageous erotic sensibilities reawakens the same for this movie as it is peppered with sex scenes, genitalia shots and a bold finale where Bonnard has sex with an older man as he commits euthanasia while listening to Pink Floyd. It remains one of the boldest cinemas to have come out in 2016 and a true show of the director makes a riff on freedom and desire.

3. Frank and Lola

Directed by Matthew Ross, this film is neo-noir delicacy starring Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots. Excuse the wordplay on delicacy as Shannon plays Frank a talented chef and Poots plays Lola the mysterious out of town girl. A blooming tale of love, fidelity, mixed narratives and deception, the chemistry between Frank and Lola is undeniable. This makes all the on-screen action even hotter earning it one of the top spots on this list.

2. Neon Bull

The winner of the Warsaw Grand Prix made waves as a bold attempt to look at the life of a bull-handler. The film is a window into the lives of the proletariat – a group of rodeos and their conversations and emotions. The rodeo crew includes Galega an erotic dancer and this introduces the quotient of sexiness in the film. The film is bold, new and doesn’t shirk including a very hot final scene between the protagonist and a heavily pregnant woman.

1. The Handmaiden

Park Chan Wook is a respected name in the international film industry and a celebrated name in Korean film history. Wook puts a twist to Sarah Waters’ story. Wook transposes the Welsh scene to a Japanese occupied Korea and shows the illicit affair between a rich heiress and a handmaiden whose initial plan was to rob her. The film subtly critiques power structures and is a brilliant psychological thriller but the best part that readers of this list will love is that there is plenty of girl on girl action, literally crammed into the two-hour movie. Wook however, despite the Sapphic delights manages to maintain a strong aesthetic throughout the film.
