ABC’s ‘For Life’ has such an inviting and topical premise that one would not believe that it was based on a true story. The legal drama brings the true story of Isaac Wright Jr.’s life to the television screen. Isaac Wright Jr. is a lawyer from Newark and what he loves the most about his profession is getting to slay Goliaths. But the reason behind that passion is even more interesting. Wright Jr. was sentenced to life imprisonment due to the illegal handling of a case by a New Jersey prosecutor using means like bribery and false testimonies.
However, instead of accepting defeat, Wright Jr. decided to fight back and educated himself in law for seven years in a maximum-security prison. However, he still faced several years in prison and set out to expose the individuals behind his false conviction. After that, despite getting a degree and clearing the bar exam, he had to wait for almost a decade to be deemed fit by the bar’s Committee on Character.
‘For Life’ is a loose adaptation of Wright Jr.’s story, but the protagonist’s name has been changed to Aaron Wallace. The show begins with Wallace, who has spent nine years in prison, skipping his struggles to educate himself. However, the series shies away from excessive political correctness by depicting Wallace’s motif of being freed from prison, which causes him to make sketchy choices in his practice.
Moreover, Indira Varma plays a progressive warden on the show who Wallace shares a complicated relationship with. Such morally conflicting scenarios help make the series equally entertaining and politically relevant. 50 Cent serves as an executive producer, adding to the drama’s appeal. With such an intriguing setup, it’s sure to make viewers think of the locations where the show was shot. Well we have all the answers for you.
