Created by Matthew Arlidge and Chris Lang for television network ITV, ‘Innocent’ is a slow-burning 4-part anthology mystery drama television series. Every season brings a new story to the plate. The first season is a whodunit story that revolves around the life of David Collins, who is wrongly sentenced for the mysterious murder of his wife, Tara. After getting out of jail, David embarks upon a journey to find the real killer of his wife.
The second season takes the audience to the Lake District, the home of the romantic poets, the idyllic peace of which is disturbed by the murder of a teenager named Matthew Taylor. The alleged murderer is found not guilty and acquitted of his charges after a few years. Comprising a brilliant cast ensemble and shot in meditative serenity, ‘Innocent’ is well worth your time. Innocent Filming Locations
‘Innocent’ is filmed across several locations in England and Ireland. Production for the second season was scheduled for March 2020, but after a delay induced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the crew commenced filming in September 2020. While the first season is set in the tranquil coastal town of Hailsham, the second season immerses the viewers into the serene beauty of the Lake District. Without further ado, let us reveal the specific locations where the show is filmed!
Some crucial sequences from the first season were filmed in Hampshire, the coastal county in the south-eastern part of England. The crew filmed at Inn on the Beach, a stunning seaside pub located at 97 Sea Front in Hayling Island in the borough of Havant. If you happen to visit the place, you can bask in the beauty of the vast seaside while sipping on the beverage of your choice.
Additionally, the crew filmed in South Downs, a range of chalk hills that extends throughout the south-eastern coast of England. A few aerial establishing shots were taken to showcase the breathtaking beauty of the location. Moreover, some interior sequences, including those at Phil’s house, were recorded somewhere in South Downs.
The crew also went to a location near Chichester, the county town of West Sussex, to film a few scenes for the first season. The boatyard shown in the series is actually Bosham Quay, a harbor in the tranquil village of Bosham in the Chichester district.
A few important sequences of the second season were filmed in Cumbria, the ceremonial county in the north-western part of England. The story of the season is set in the idyllic Lake District, and the crew chose to film most of the exterior sequences on location in and around the scenic region. The production team filmed the exterior scenes of the second season mostly in and around the market town of Keswick in Cumbria, England.
The sleepy town provided the crew with an atmospheric setting ideal for the narrative. Some scenes were filmed at Keswick Rugby Club, a local club overlooking the Skiddaw mountains. The club is situated at Davidson Park, Crow Park Road, at the edge of the town. Some scenes were filmed by Crummock Water, a lake located between Loweswater and Buttermere.
Additionally, some sequences were captured by another lake in the Lake District, namely Derwentwater, located south of Keswick. Lastly, the crew filmed a few sequences at the historic location of Carlisle Citadel, a grade I listed heritage building located on English Street in Carlisle, the county town of Cumbria.
Although all of the show is set in England, the crew repeatedly visits the capital city of Ireland due to the ease of filming and tax benefits. Most of the interior sequences of the show are filmed in the neighboring country of England. The police interrogation sequences of the second season were filmed at the Park House office building in Dublin Institute of Technology, an educational institution located on North Circular Road in Cabra East, just outside the city.
Both the interior and exterior sequences of the police station were filmed in the location. In the second season, the crew visited Malahide, a prosperous coastal town located in Fingal in the county of Dublin. The community lies some 16 kilometers north of the capital city.
