New York City is often touted to be the City of Dreams, for good reason. The Big Apple has something in store for everyone. Artists, especially, often flock to the city in hopes of being able to convert their passions into a profession. ‘Little Voice’ is an Apple TV+ show that tries to capture this magnetic ability of the city and the artistic need to find one’s voice. The series attempts to showcase the journey of setting oneself apart in the sea of uncertainty and competition.
‘Little Voice’ revolves around Bess King who is an aspiring singer-songwriter. She lives in New York City and is depicted to be struggling to move on from her humiliation due to a bad experience while performing her music live for the first time. She is a typical struggling artist: hustling to pay off her bills. She bartends, teaches instruments at an old age home, and walks dogs to earn money. Apart from her, the series also revolves around King’s Indian roommate who faces pressure from her parents to get married. ‘Little Voice’ is described as a “love letter to the diverse musicality of New York.” You can watch most of these shows like Little Voice on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime.

By doing so, the miniseries showcases the changing power dynamics in their relationship.
5. Flight of the Conchords (2007-2009)
‘Flight of the Conchords’ is one of those shows wherein real people play fictionalized versions of themselves. It revolves around the titular two-man band who attempt to make it big in New York. 3. The Get Down (2016-2017)
‘The Get Down’ is no ordinary drama. It is a musical history show that documents one of the most fascinating periods in artistic history: the 1970s. 2. High Fidelity (2020-)
‘High Fidelity‘ is a show that celebrates the power of music in people’s lives. Plus, it is also set in Brooklyn. However, its setting is no mere placeholder. Instead, the series depicts the gentrification of Crown Heights. ‘High Fidelity’ revolves around a record store owner who remembers her past relationships through music. However, she is actually just attempting to get over “the one who got away.” It is based on a novel of the same name by Nick Hornby and should not be confused with the 2000 film that shares the source material.
1. Katy Keene (2020-)
‘Katy Keene‘ is unlike other shows based on Archie Comics characters. The production is way more mature and revolves around ambitions and hustle in New York City. The series sees its titular character shift to the Big Apple in order to chase her dreams of being a fashion designer.
