Where Did ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Shooting Take Place?

‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ follows the story of a 16-year-old girl who is half-witch and half-mortal. While she loves the powers that her witch blood provides her, she also wants to have a normal life like her mortal friends. Because she doesn’t want to give up one thing for another, she has to strike a balance between both lives. However, as the story moves forward, her worlds collide, and soon, she can’t tell one from the other.

Sabrina’s adventures are nail-bitingly exciting, and most of the action in the series takes place in the town of Greendale. For what is supposed to be a small, quiet town, it has a lot of secrets and mysteries. At the end of Part 2, we come to know why exactly Greendale serves as the magnet for danger. The town becomes an active character in the story, which makes every location and every shot equally important.

Like ‘Riverdale’, ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ takes place in an unspecified era, which is why the showrunners decided to go for a retro look for it. In order to do that, they had to seek out the locations worthy of the eerie tone of the show. Here are all The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina filming locations used to bring out that effect.

Where Was The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Filmed?

The fictional town of Greendale serves as the setting for Sabrina’s story. Her adventures take her from the basement of her house to the secretive mines of the town. To film all these locations, the cast and crew set base camp in Vancouver, with its neighbouring cities like Surrey and Cloverdale housing most of the locations.

Vancouver, British Columbia

Like its sister series, ‘Riverdale’, ‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ also has Vancouver as its production location. More specifically, the city of Cloverdale plays host to the cast and crew of the show who use various locations all over the town to create the spookiness of Greendale.

Starting with the Spellman Mortuary, which is also where Sabrina lives with her aunties and Ambrose, it is located at Gladwin Road in Abbotsford. The next important location in Sabrina’s daily life is her school. The filming of Baxter High takes place at Lord Strathcona Elementary, which serves as the exterior for the school. Her other school is the Academy of Unseen Arts, which appears dilapidated from the outside. The exteriors of the place have been filmed at the old Coghlan substation in Langley at 6835 256th street by the BC electric railway.

While her home and school are where she spends most of her time, we also find Sabrina taking leisurely walks through the forest, which is also where she finds herself in trouble a number of times. For filming these scenes different locations are employed. It is a collective of places like Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby and the Belcarra Regional Park.

Every gang has a hangout point and for Sabrina and her friends, it is Cerberus Books. The store is located in Cloverdale and before its makeover for the series, it used to be Dann’s Electronics and Bowerbird Stop Antiques. We also see the group hanging out at the movie theatre a lot. The opening scene of the series features them outside a theatre where they have a short chat with Ms Wardwell before she is taken over by Lilith. The scene was shot with the exterior of the Paramount Gentleman’s Club in New Westminster. The interiors are filmed at the Vogue theatre in Granville Street.

The mines are another important location in Greendale. This is the place which, supposedly, has the gate to hell. The Dark Lord and other demons have been spotted in the mines from time to time. The exteriors of the mines are filmed at the Britannia Mine Museum in Britannia Beach.

In the first episode of the series, Sabrina and Harvey go to the pumpkin farm. What is supposed to be a cute date soon turns horrific. The filming of this scene took place at Applebarn Pumpkin Farm in Abbotsford. This is also the place where Sabrina has the vision of the hanging tree which later appears in the final episode of Part 1. The filming of the scenes featuring the tree took place at the Redwood Park in South Surrey.

In Part 3 of the show, one of the new locations to pop up is the carnival. It starts out as a place for the people of Greendale to have fun, but later, it turns out to be the stopping point of the pagans who want to destroy Greendale and its witches. The filming for these scenes took place at the carnival set that was built at Panther Paintball in South Surrey.

Apart from all these locations, the filming for scenes like the inside of the Academy and other sets takes place in the studio in North Langley.
