‘Escape Room: Tournament of Champions’ is a psychological horror film that serves as a sequel to 2019’s ‘Escape Room.’ It is directed by Adam Robitel and continues the story of Zoey and Ben, who, against all odds, survive the evil machinations of Minos. However, they soon find themselves in another set of twisted escape room games, fighting for their survival alongside other survivors from different escape rooms.
The franchise, which is comparable to movies in the ‘Saw‘ franchise, is quickly carving a niche for itself. Naturally, if you have found yourself drawn into the suspenseful mysteries and intriguing puzzles, you must be wondering if a third installment in the franchise is on the horizon. In that case, allow us to help you by sharing everything we know about ‘Escape Room 3.’
Escape Room 3 Release Date
‘Escape Room: Tournament of Champions’ was released by Sony Pictures Releasing on July 16, 2021, exclusively in theatres in the US. However, in Australia, it was released earlier, on July 1, 2021. Upon release, the film received mixed reviews like its predecessor, but the enticing puzzles were generally praised.
A third installment in the franchise hasn’t been officially announced just yet but remains a strong possibility given the cliffhanger ending of the second installment. Director Adam Robitel expressed excitement over the possibility of a sequel while speaking to the EW. “We have a treasure trove of ideas [for a third ‘Escape Room’ movie]. It’s really going to be up to the fans. But, look, there’s a lot of ways to skin the cat, there’s a lot of different ways to continue to play with the audience’s expectations. Yeah, we’d be really excited to do that,’ he said.
Judging by the director’s words, it could be the case that there is a plan in place to continue the story, but the studio is likely waiting to see how the film scores with the audience to greenlight a threequel. Should a prospective ‘Escape Room 3’ be announced in the coming months, the movie could be slated for a release sometime in 2023.
Escape Room 3 Cast: Who can be in it?
In ‘Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,’ Taylor Russell and Logan Miller reprise their roles as Zoey Davis and Ben Miller. They are joined by Indya Moore as Brianna Collier, Holland Roden as Rachel Ellis, Thomas Cocquerel as Nathan, and Carlito Olivero as Theo. Deborah Ann Woll reprises her role as Amanda Harper from the previous film.
For ‘Escape Room 3,’ Russell and Miller are most likely to return, while Woll could also return. Given her character’s reemergence, the ‘Daredevil‘ fame actress could play a larger role in the next installment. The chances of Moore, Roden, Cocquerel, and Olivero returning are measly but not entirely zero. We also expect to see a few new faces in the new installment.
Escape Room 3 Plot: What can it be About?
At the end of ‘Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,’ the truth about Minos is finally out in the open. Zoey and Ben take a plane back home. Just as they believe the worst is behind them, Zoey begins to suspect that the plane is another one of Minos’ deadly escape rooms. Her suspicion turns to reality as the plane starts to fill with gas.
In ‘Escape Room 3,’ we will likely get an answer to the previous movie’s cliffhanger ending. Zoey and Ben are likely to survive the plane puzzle but will find themselves among more dangerous puzzles. Amanda could be crucial in providing insider info that could help Zoey and Ben take down Minos once and for all. Zoey could also agree to work with Minos and attempt to sabotage their operations.
