J.K. Simmons and Simon Pegg are set to star in ‘My Only Sunshine’, a heist thriller directed by Mark Palansky. The script of the film has been written by J.T. and K. Reed Petty. It is produced by Matt Smith and Lawrence Mattis of Circle of Confusion and Michael Mendelsohn of Patriot Pictures. The executive producers on board are Natalie Perrotta and Jim Steele. ‘My Only Sunshine’ is expected to begin production in the fall. The film, which will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, is being handled by XYZ and ICM partners. Mendelsohn, who is financing and producing the project, spoke about it, saying, “Such a gifted director and a cast of talented actors to lead this creative endeavor. This original, riveting, and hilarious storyline will captivate audiences.”
The movie revolves around a couple who are passionately dysfunctional. They orchestrate a bank robbery as part of an unconventional act to help them in their marriage counseling. However, the bloodthirsty act soon leads to a hostage situation. The violence inherent in the scenario makes the couple face the shocking mystery of their relationship as they attempt to make peace. Caught up in all of it, is a cop hostage negotiator who had previously investigated a related crime in the past. Pegg’s and Simmons’ roles remain unknown for the moment.
Coming to Simon Pegg, the actor is best known for appearing in the ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Mission Impossible‘ movies. He plays the role of Benji in the latter where his performance is the humorous, to say the least. Up next, Pegg will be seen on ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance‘, the Netflix series. It is a prequel to Jim Henson’s 1982 movie, ‘The Dark Crystal’. The ten-episode series is an exploration of the world of Thra.
As for J.K. Simmons, he is best known for playing the role of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ movies. Simmons won an Oscar for his performance in ‘Whiplash‘ and has been recently seen reprising the role of Jameson in MCU’s ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home‘.
