Lexi and Mal: Is The Ultimatum Queer Love Duo Still Dating?

With Netflix’s ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love‘ living up to its title in every way imaginable, we get a true insight into how romance, relationships, and rights are never as straightforward as they seem. After all, this original production revolves around a group of LGBTQ+ individuals as they openly navigate the crossroads they’ve arrived at while on their way to attaining future familial stability. Amongst them were actually Lexi Goldberg (she/her) and Mal Wright (she/her/they) — so now, if you wish to learn more about them as well as their current standing, we’ve got the details for you.

Lexi and Mal’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love Journey

From the moment Lexi first came across our screens with her long blonde hair, feminine glow, and bright smile, she made it evident she was more than ready to settle down despite only being 24. She honestly planned on doing so with her loving girlfriend of 3 years Rachel “Rae” Cheung-Sutton, but the latter just wasn’t on the same page as the thought of forever terrified her to no extent. Thus came the ultimatum — yet it was not to back the 27-year-old against a wall; it was to help her gain “clarity” through new explorations, per their own narrative in the series (filmed in 2021).

Coming to Mal, they were on the receiving end of an ultimatum by their partner of 3 years, Yoly Rojus, since they were essentially stalling with this idea of wanting to be totally financially secure. “It’s not about if I want to marry her,” they candidly elucidated in the original. “I want to marry her, but I don’t necessarily feel like I’m in the place to provide for her like I want to provide.” Though the masc had a personal reason too; they wanted to know if their lover was really choosing them and why, as in what made them so different than all of her other similar-intensity ex-partners.

Hence began their experience of dating others through ‘The Ultimatum,’ driving Lexi right to both pansexual 30-year-old Vanessa Papa and 36-year-old Mal owing to their positive energies. However, the fact she was able to get much deeper with the latter was definitely an extra positive, especially as they shared similar core values in terms of family, efforts, respect, and more. “I don’t know if I pick Mal over Vanessa or Vanessa over Mal [as my trial wife],” the former later said in a confessional. “I just can see so clearly that one is like cozy and easy, and the other one is… like lightning and thunderstorms… I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

But alas, Lexi’s decision was ultimately incredibly easy as she soon realized Vanessa wasn’t even sure if she ever wanted to settle down, making her doubt her intentions to the very core. Plus, the fact she’d already discussed heritage, race, religion, as well as long-term family plans with Mal, and knew that she could voice her assertive opinions in group settings without worrying about them feeling uncomfortable was everything to her. In other words, she felt valued by them in a way she never had before, and they too, recognized life with the young Californian could be perfect.

In fact, Lexi and Mal established such a deep bond within a short time that the latter asserted she’d “revolutionalized” her entire world, meaning if the duo were to step into reality together, they knew they could propose and then build their financial stability hand in hand. “It’s interesting,” Mal said at one point. “With you, some of my rules bend a little, so I guess they weren’t rules as much as I thought they were… Like, should we leave this thing engaged?” Even Lexi heavily implied she was open to this idea owing to their compatibility as well as overall understanding, which only got proven once she heartbreakingly learned her “ex” Rae had slept with Vanessa.

Lexi and Mal Are Not Together

Despite everything Lexi and Mal went through together, we do believe they are not romantically involved at the moment due to the fact they left the experiment with their original lovers. However, even though these couples aren’t together anymore, Lexi, Rae, Mal, and Yoly all seem perfectly happy at the moment, as indicated in their most recent Instagram posts, like above, plus they’ve maintained a sense of mutual respect. We should also specify that it does appear as if Lexi and Mal, in particular, are still on good terms as great friends these days — they not only follow one another on Instagram but often interact as well, making it clear they value the connection they once shared.
