‘Fearless’ is an animated movie by Cory Edwards that revolves around a teenage gamer who somehow manages to bend the rules of space and time and ends up with three superpowered alien babies – right out of his game! Now he has to save the world from getting invaded by evil aliens and also save the babies from the US army who wants to take them away, all while babysitting the little cuties.
This storyline of “video game becoming real” or “real people getting stuck in video games” is not a new premise. If you’re looking for more films that are similar to Netflix’s Fearless, we have got a list of the 7 best that are also a ton of fun to watch. Read on to check out how many you have yet to see from our list! You can find some of these movies like Fearless on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime.
7. Pixels (2015)
This one would be especially a good watch for people who love old school arcade games of the 1980s. In this Adam Sandler film, aliens think that a video sent to space with footage of 80s’ classic arcade games is a declaration of war and the President of the United States now has to put together a team of the best video gamers of that time, most of who are his own loser friends from childhood, to fight this alien war. This movie features games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Arkanoid, Galaga, Centipede, and Donkey Kong. It’s ultimate silly fun – so bad that it’s good.
6. Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Video game baddie Ralph has something to prove – that he’s not the villain but a hero with a big heart. He embarks on an adventure to prove his worth in the world of arcade games but things go downhill when he accidentally sets loose the biggest “baddest” villain of all. Directed by Rich Moore, this Disney Pixar film takes viewers right inside the world of video games and raises the question “what if video game characters had real feelings?”, just like ‘Fearless’.
5. Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
This might be the latest entry on this list, having come out earlier this year. Directed by Jeff Fowler and starring Jim Carrey, Ben Shwartz, and James Marsden, this film is based on the popular video game Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog is on the run with a friend he just made, to escape the greatest villain on planet Earth – Dr. Robotnik, who wants to harness Sonic’s speed and use his powers for world domination. Similar in storyline to ‘Fearless’ with a human having to team up with an alien species to save the world. Fun stuff.
4. Incredibles 2 (2018)
The sequel to Pixar’s Incredibles was released 14 years after the original film came out and it was worth the wait. As an animated film, Brad Bird’s ‘Incredibles 2’ is delightful. As a superhero movie, it is really really delightful. We are reunited with the super family of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl as they are settling in their new roles after gaining worldwide acceptance of their powers in the last movie. And finally, we get to see baby Jack-Jack use his super-ness and figure out what marvelous powers he has. This film is featured on this list of movies similar to ‘Fearless’ purely because it also has awesome butt-kicking superpowered kids.
3. The Incredibles (2004)
‘The Incredibles’ is a classic Disney Pixar movie that follows the antics of a family of superheroes. What happens when two extremely powerful superheroes get married? They make equally powerful and “incredible” babies, of course! Except that they have been forced to live in hiding, pretending they are “normal” because people are too afraid of superheroes. It’s only a matter of time before one of them risks exposure by falling into old habits again. Directed by Brad Bird (who by the way, plays the beloved Edna Mode), this movie is a must-watch.
2. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)
You all remember the classic Robin Williams starrer ‘Jumanji’ in which the characters had to complete a board game that unleashed all kinds of horrors in the real world. Now, the deadly game has evolved with the times in ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and takes players inside the video game, trapping them as their avatars until they finish the levels successfully. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black in epic roles, this movie is kind of opposite in the basic premise, taking players inside the video game while ‘Fearless’ vomits video game characters out in the real world, but viewers who like ‘Fearless’ will love this one. The concept of fantasy video game world colliding with the real world remains the same.
1. Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black all reprise their roles as hilarious video game avatars in this installment of the Jumanji series. It’s a new game, just as dangerous as before, that they have to play and win so that they can all go back to their world. They’ve each only got 3 lives and the crazy just won’t stop ensuing. This one is another laugh riot that is an absolute must-see for fans of the “video game – real world” sub-genre.
