With every step that she takes, Holly Gibney discovers that there is much more to this “open and shut” case of Terry Maitland than had originally appeared. One of the things that stand out is how eerily similar the circumstances are for the other victims/convicts as well, and how they had all been in close vicinity to each other. A pattern has begun to show up and it does not point towards the direction that Holly or Anderson or anyone else would expect.
The fourth episode ends with Holly on a crossroad. The possibility of a doppelganger, which she had put forward in her first meeting with Anderson, is becoming stronger with every revelation. Both she and the audience are left with food for thought with the tale of El Cuco. Let’s find out what the next episode has in store for us.

‘The Outsider’ Episode 5 Spoilers
The meeting with Maria and the story of El Cuco has pushed Holly towards the “unexplainable”. In the next episode, titled ‘Tear-Drinker’, we will see her finding out more similarities between the cases. She will return to Dayton to bring back the case to Terry. If she does finally settle on the idea of a supernatural creature murdering children and taking others’ identity to set them up, the next step would be to sell this idea to others, who might not be so accepting of it. Especially Anderson, who has no tolerance for the things that can’t be explained. Though, she might have some help.
In the fourth episode, the boy who had originally stolen the van shows up in Cherokee to tell Anderson and others more about how he had lost it. He didn’t just abandon the vehicle, someone took it from him, and it was the same hooded figure who has been popping up every time something bad happens. The boy draws a picture of the hooded man for them. This could lead Anderson back to the conversation with Jessa, where she had mentioned the man whose face went hazy with every visit. It could help him grasp the idea of a shapeshifter with better ease.
Moving on, we also expect more trouble for Jack, who now seems to be in total subservience of the thing. What will it make him do? Why did he buy all that stuff only to dump it in the forest? Moreover, the thing had scratched Claude. What does it plan to do next? Will another child be killed before the cops figure out what is going on? Or will it pay a visit to Anderson?
