The Walking Dead Season 11: The Complete Details

‘The Walking Dead’, AMC’s post-apocalyptic drama, has been on-air for quite a long time now. Even after the departure of several lead stars over its run, especially Andrew Lincoln in season 9, it continues to be among the most-watched shows on the channel. Its 10th edition, which dropped in October 2019, had a successful run as well. And as fans might know, ‘The Walking Dead’ has already been renewed for an 11th outing. But there are several changes in the schedule and storyline for the next edition. Let’s break down the details in the following sections.

The Walking Dead Season 11 Release Date:

‘The Walking Dead’ season 10 premiered on October 6, 2019, on AMC. After airing eight episodes, it went on a hiatus and returned with its ninth episode on February 23, 2020. Although the originally planned finale was scheduled to air on April 12, 2020, the COVID-19 post-production delays pushed back the 16th episode’s air date to October 4, 2020.

However, AMC later added six extra episodes to air as a part of season 10. The cabler has revealed that these episodes will use unused footage from the 10th installment’s shoot. It has already been confirmed that ‘The Walking Dead’ season 10 episode 17 will release in early 2021.

Now, as far as the 11th season goes, here’s the great news. During the New York Comic Con 2019, AMC confirmed that ‘The Walking Dead’ has been greenlit for an 11th, final edition. The new iteration is scheduled to commence filming in October 2020. AMC had previously stated that the last season will run from 2021 to 2022, spanning 24 episodes. Keeping all the aforementioned factors in mind, we can expect ‘The Walking Dead’ season 11 to premiere in October 2021.

The Walking Dead Season 11 Cast: Who Can be in it?

‘The Walking Dead’ has a sprawling ensemble cast and the characters have changed so much over the years that it is difficult to predict who will feature in the next season. But here are some sure-shot returns. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, is seen in the season 10 finale, and she will join the cast as a series regular for season 11. Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon will definitely make a comeback, joined by Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa, Seth Gilliam as Gabriel Stokes, Ross Marquand as Aaron, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, Khary Payton as Ezekiel, Callan McAuliffe as Alden, and Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter.

Sadly, the upcoming season won’t see Danai Gurira as Michonne. AMC is yet to release the complete cast list for season 11. We will update this section as we hear more — since we expect some new faces to join the final edition.

The Walking Dead Season 11 Plot: What Can it be About?

Season 11 will give us more answers about the mysterious entity that Eugene has been contacting all the while in season 10. It might also feature the Commonwealth, a massive new community. Showrunner Scott M. Gimple gave us some insights about the next season in AMC’s press release. He said:

“It’s been ten years ‘gone bye;’ what lies ahead are two more to come and stories and stories to tell beyond that. What’s clear is that this show has been about the living, made by a passionate cast, a team of writer/producers, producers, and crew, bringing to life the vision put forth by Robert Kirkman in his brilliant comic — and supported by the best fans in the world. We have a lot of thrilling stories left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be the beginning of more Walking Dead — brand new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. ‘The Walking Dead’ lives.”
