‘The Weight’ is a period drama film charting the course of a taxing journey undertaken by a desperate single father who is vying for his own freedom. In 1933, when the Great Depression is ravaging the spirits of the American people, Sam Murphy, a war veteran, finds himself in prison after one regrettable mistake. However, more than the incarceration itself, it’s the subsequent separation from his young daughter, Penny, that haunts him. In the time that Sam serves his sentence, his kid will likely already be adopted out of the system. As such, Warden Clancy’s offer to ensure his early release becomes a lone lifeboat in a storm. The warden wants the convict to collect three other men to covertly transport gold bars out of a mine for safekeeping. As such, the father and his fellow convicts embark on a daunting mission. The film ends with a tribute to Billy, a man who greatly inspired and influenced director Padraic McKinley.

In a conversation with UPI, the filmmaker spoke about the same and said, “He (Anderson) was a big giant influence, big giant mentor for me. It would have been criminal for me not to acknowledge that first step in the end title roll.” Anderson passed away on January 4, 2022, in Los Angeles at the age of 73. At the time of writing, no further details about his passing have been revealed to the public. In his death, the film editor leaves behind an illustrious legacy that continues to be an inspiration for many.
