Tim Allen Comedy ‘Last Man Standing’ Renewed by Fox for Season 8

Tim Allen comedy ‘Last Man Standing‘ has been renewed by Fox for season 8. This will be the popular comedy series’ second season on Fox and eighth in overall. The series has become Fox’s flagship comedy with high rating during its first season on the network. ‘Last Man Standing’ was aired by ABC for six seasons and Fox picked it up after cancellation. The show grabbed a second spot on Fox’s most-watched list and became the third highest-rated scripted series this season.

‘Last Man Standing’ roared out of the gate on Fox, and has maintained its rating dominance ever since,’ Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for Fox Entertainment is quoted as saying in a Variety report. ‘Much of that credit goes to the incredibly funny and talented Tim Allen, not to mention Nancy, Hector and the rest of the show’s great cast. We’d like to thank Kevin, Matt and the entire crew, along with our partners at 20th Century Fox Television, for overseeing one of television’s most popular comedies. We’d also like to congratulate them all on reaching 150 episodes, a milestone that’s well-deserved,’ he added.

The comedy features Tim Allen as Mike Baxter as a husband and father of three daughters. He is the odd man out in a family dominated by women. He tries hard to hold onto his position as the man of the house, but in vain. Baxter finds solace in his day job at a sports goods emporium and vlog, in which he speaks out his views on the environment, health care and politics. Apart from Allen, the series also features Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jet Jurgenson, Jonathan Adams, Krista Marie Yu, and Hector Elizondo.

‘Hard to believe ‘Last Man Standing’ hits 150 episodes this week and it gets better with another upcoming season at Fox,’ Allen is quoted as saying by Variety. ‘Great news for all of us who are creating these stories and working our pants off to make you all laugh. It’s another big high-five to the legions of loyal fans who have faithfully kept us front and center and huge on the radar. Thanks to our family at Fox, who continue to make us feel so at home. Man, if we keep this up, they might have to call our show: ‘Last Man Unable to Stand.”

‘Last Man Standing’ is Fox’s first live-action comedy to be renewed for a new season. Earlier, the network has renewed its animated shows ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘Family Guy‘ and ‘Bob’s Burgers‘ and drama shows ‘911‘ and ‘The Resident.’ Fox’s lineup is going through dynamic changes after the new Fox Entertainment chief Charlie Collier started his tenure at the office. The network has already announced its decision to cancel Marvel’s ‘The Gifted‘ and ‘Rel.’ The future of the other titles like ‘Empire,’ ‘Lethal Weapon,’ ‘The Orville,’ ‘Star,’ ‘The Passage,’ ‘The Cool Kids,’ and ‘Proven Innocent’ is still uncertain. With the renewal of ‘Last Man Standing,’ Fox has given out an indication of its plans for the 2019-20 television schedule.

Kevin Abbott, Matt Berry, Kevin Hench, Ed Yeager, Allen, Marty Adelstein, Shawn Levy, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina executive produce the series. Abbott also serves as showrunner.
