‘Umbrella Academy’ Gets a Renewal for Season 2 on Netflix with Cast Details Out

Netflix has renewed ‘Umbrella Academy‘ for a second season. According to a Variety report, Season 1 cast members, Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min reprise their roles in Season 2. will all reprise their roles in Season 2. While Steve Blackman makes his return as the showrunner for the second season, which consists of 10 episodes.

Additional casting is halfway done and the streaming platform would update the details soon, say the reports. Based on the Eisner Award-winning comics of the same name created by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá and published by Dark Horse Comics. ‘Umbrella Academy’ debuted a month and a half ago to positive to mixed reviews.

The first season featured seven children born out of a mysterious phenomenon in different parts. The plot follows Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya, and Number Five, the remaining members of the seven unnatural kids born with supernatural abilities.

They are the only survivors among the forty-three babies born to random, stranger mothers without any signs of pregnancy till birth. Later, the super-kids are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist with a cause. He wants to form a league of justice band with the seven protegees.

Hargreeves starts an intensive training program to prepare his kids to become saviors of the world with supernatural powers under the band, ‘Umbrella Academy.’ But, his plan goes awry when the band members start irritating each other with their eccentric behavior. Eventually, ‘Umbrella Academy’ disbands with the members go on their own way, leaving a desperate millionaire and his plan behind.

But, when the news of Hargreeves’ death under mysterious circumstances reaches them, the six remaining members reunite to solve the mystery surrounding their father’s death. But, their divergent personalities and skills, which were once caused the band to dissolve, surface again. Now, the reunited ‘Umbrella Academy; had to deal with the ongoing war of egos between themselves as well as the evil lurching beneath the death of their father, plotting the apocalypse.

Created by Jeremy Slater, ‘Umbrella Academy’ features Ellen Page, Tom Hopper and David Castañeda in the lead roles. Universal Content Productions produces the new season for Netflix. Jeff F. King, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Blackman executive produce ‘Umbrella Academy Season 2.’

The first season scored a 76% critical rating and a 86% viewers’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Gerard Way has eight graphic novels in the making as source material for the series, which means ‘Umbrella Academy’ is here for a longer lap.

The rather quick decision of ‘Umbrella Academy’ goes for a second season comes after Marvel’s mass culling of its Popular Netflix shows. ‘Iron Fist’ was the first one to go among the Marvel – Netflix cross-products. With the cancellation of ‘Daredevil,’ anxious fans start wondering what will be the future of the heroes of ‘Harlem’ and ‘Hell’s Kitchen.’

Shortly after ‘Daredevil’s cancellation, ‘Jessica Jones’ and spinoff ‘The Punisher,’ was thrown out of the renewal lineup. Both the Marvel shows will end up with their third and second seasons respectively, announced Netflix. According to a Variety report, the original deal between Netflix and Disney contained a clause which caused the rift.

The clause reportedly put in place to prevent any of the characters subject to the deal from playing a part in any series or movie outside Netflix for at least two years after cancellation. In an attempt to gain control of the content, the two giants part ways with some of the popular shows leaving behind their devoted fans. And, the question of the hour is, whether Netflix can fill the gap Marvel left behind with the revival of shows like ‘Umbrella Academy?’
