How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift Season 2: Premiere Date, Plot, Characters

Cute anime girls with revealing outfits and buff gym-bros with exceptionally good bodies that can put Arnold Schwarzenegger to shame. Well, basically that’s what ‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?’ is all about. It brings in some anti-broscience humor along with some good old Ecchi gimmicks, making it an extremely enjoyable anime. But unlike other good Ecchi anime like ‘Prison School‘, this one is not entirely a comedy show and brings in some serious sports anime elements that will definitely inspire you. The major selling point of the show is its amazing characters who have simple personalities and are just normal people. But they still manage to deliver some extremely hilarious dialogues. There are also some significant side characters in the show who are quite different from the main ones and contribute to the overall comic tone in one way or the other. The show also has a lot of delicious jokes about the present gym archetypes and culture.

While the story merely revolves around high school girls who want to train at a gym, it is the treatment given to it that makes the anime really enjoyable. Coming from a lesser-known anime Studio, the art is actually quite impressive, especially if we consider the character designs. The opening theme isn’t all that catchy but it gives you a glimpse of what you should be expecting from the show. Apart from that, other soundtracks are just decent and usually go unnoticed. So when it comes to entertainment value, ‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?’ is by far one of the funniest shows and you won’t be disappointed at all if you’re looking for some pure lighthearted fun. However, if you’re looking for an anime that offers a complex plot with heavy character development, then you might want to look in a different direction.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? Season 2 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru’ Season 1 premiered on July 3, 2019 and with a total of 12 episodes, it came to an end on September 18, 2019. The sports anime genre has always been well received by most anime viewers and over the years, it has been flooded with shows that portray the true spirit of sports like football, basketball, baseball, boxing and even volleyball. But ‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?’ has grabbed everyone’s attention because it’s the first sports anime about weightlifting and fitness. So despite its average rating, the anime has been gaining immense popularity among viewers. This itself could inspire the creators to go for a whole new season of the anime.

Now, if we compare the anime with the manga, Season 1 will probably adapt only 6 volumes of the source material because the 7th volume was released just one month before its premiere. And though one volume may not be enough for a whole new season, it seems like the mangaka, Yabako Sandrovich, is consistently creating more content. So by the end of 2019, the creators of the anime must have enough source material for a whole new season.

As of now, ‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?’ does show some promising signs of getting a renewal but only time will what the future holds for this show. Our best guess us that ‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru’ Season 2 will arrive sometime in July, 2020. And if we get any official confirmations regarding this in the future, we will surely update it here in this section.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? Plot:

‘Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?’ revolves around a high school girl named Sakura Hibiki who has a huge appetite. But after a few years of consistent hogging, she starts noticing that she’s literally growing out of her clothes and her waistline is constantly expanding. Desperate to control this, she decides to enroll herself to a nearby gym and that’s where she meets another girl named Souryuuin Akemi, who is from the same grade as her.

Akemi further encourages her to workout despite the high ratio self-obsessed “macho” men at their gym. Though a little reluctant at first, Sakura decides to give it a shot when she meets an extremely attractive trainer named Machio. Together, all three of them set out on a journey to become the strongest version of themselves and achieve a great body.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? Characters:

Hibiki Sakura

Hibiki Sakura is the main protagonist of the show who is a second-year High School student at the Koyo Women’s Academy. She later becomes a regular member of Silverman Gym. For her age, she has an average height and has a slightly tanned skin tone. She has long blond hair that she keeps tied up as ponytails. Her workout outfit is usually a black tank top and red shorts with white stripes. She is a big eater and spends a good part of her day on just hogging on junk food. When her friend, Akemi, asks her about her diet, she tells her that she eats at least 6 unhealthy meals a day.

After she starts to gain some weight, she gets really self-conscious and starts believing that she won’t be able to attract anyone. That’s when she decides to hit the gym to lose some weight. Unlike Akemi, she seems to hate heavily muscular bodies and as soon as she spots some really buff men at her gym, she gets disgusted and decides to leave. But then she spots Machio and instantly starts to like him for his good looks. Later when she spots him shirtless, his heavily muscular physique really surprises her.

When it comes to her physical abilities at the gym, she does not have much stamina but she shows a lot of physical strength and even destroys the punching bag with one single punch. She is also able to defeat a semi-professional boxer when she fights for the first time. All of this strength, which even allows her to lift boulders in certain situations, comes from her adrenaline-fueled instinct that gets activated when she’s completely motivated. But this ability seems to be out of her control as her strength only surfaces when she’s in some extremely intense situations.

Akemi Souryuuin

Just like Sakura, Akemi is also a second-year high school student at the Koyo Women’s Academy and is a regular member of the Silverman Gym. She is a tall and fit teen girl who has long black hair that almost reaches her waist. At the gym, she wears a light blue tank top, compression shorts and bright pink sneakers. While Sakura seems to hate heavily muscular men, Akami has a muscle fetish and loves anything that is associated with muscle building and fitness.

Before joining the Silverman Gym, she used to be a part of a health and fitness club where she got to witness her first bodybuilding competition. Since then, she has been obsessed with muscles and has been working out consistently. She is also quite strong and can easily perform 20 inverted push-ups. She is also able to lift boulders with ease and because of her sports background, she has a lot more stamina than other professional athletes at the gym.

Machio Naruzo

Machio Naruzo is a personal trainer and bodybuilder at the Silverman Gym and he regularly trains Akemi and Sakura. He’s a tall good looking guy who is often seen in a blue tracksuit that covers his entire body. Because of this, Sakura initially gets the impression that he may not be all that muscular. Only when he does his bodybuilding poses, his tracksuit completely tears to pieces and his heavily muscular body is revealed. He is very disciplined and committed towards his own fitness goals and is also extremely dedicated to helping his clients at the gym. Even when Hibiki is not able to perform certain exercises properly, instead of laughing at her, he guides and encourages her to push beyond her limits.

Machio is freakishly strong and just flexing can tear all of his clothes. He also shows no shame in walking around naked in public. He seems to have full control over all of his muscles and is even able to crush iron grips when he grabs them too hard. While Hibiki seems to have a huge crush on him, he remains oblivious to her infatuation.
