Daniel and Ana’s love story in ‘Gangs of Galicia‘ has been doomed from the very start. The latter arrives in Cambados with the intention of avenging her father’s murder, which happened at the hands of the Padin crime family. The former is the heir to the very same criminal organization. Even so, as their paths cross in season 1, sparks of romance inevitably fly between the two. However, Daniel’s imprisonment and Ana’s imminent need to disappear send the pair of lovers down two very different roads.
Yet, in season 2, as Ana once again returns to the Galician town to settle old scores, her story once again intertwines with Daniel’s. The fact that she is now a mother to a three-year-old daughter, born from their old love affair, further complicates matters as the two are hopelessly sucked back into each other’s orbit. Yet, between dangerous crime syndicates and greater powers at play, the couple’s future remains uncertain as ever. SPOILERS AHEAD!
The Romance Between Daniel and Ana Persists
At the beginning of season 2, years have passed since Ana and Daniel last saw each other. Even so, both characters have been keeping tabs on each other. While the Padin heir has been employing detectives left and right to find his ex-lover, who is in the wind, the lawyer keeps an eye on the news revolving around his criminal case. For the same reason, she’s aware of his release on parole and, similarly, he’s one of the first ones to know about her return to Cambados. Thus, it doesn’t take long for the duo to meet again, initially in a nondescript grocery store. When Daniel learns about Sara, his and Ana’s three-year-old daughter, he is eager to meet the kid, even if it is just as a friend of her mother at first.

Soon afterward, Daniel seeks out Ana’s company again, and the two end up giving in to the lingering chemistry that has been brewing between them since they re-entered each other’s lives. However, they both have too much on their plates to actually deal with the complicated reality of pursuing a relationship with each other. While Daniel has reluctantly stepped back in the game to help his father, Ana is forced to work for the anonymous figurehead rapidly rising against the Padins. Therefore, they have once again found themselves on opposing sides as a result of their circumstances. Yet, despite their situations, it remains evident that both care deeply about each other and want the possibility of a future together.
Daniel Chooses Prison Over Witness Protection With Ana and Their Daughter
Despite their conflicting professional priorities, Ana and Daniel remain tied together through Sara, their daughter. When the lawyer comes to Cambados to work for Macario and his new collaborator, Paco, she leaves her family behind for their safety. Nonetheless, when Jose Padin manages to find them, she spirals and reaches unfavorable conclusions. Thus, in an attempt to keep her mother and her daughter safe, she ends up reaching out to Macario. However, all this does is ensure that Ana’s family is under his captivity and surveillance, which makes them a potential blackmail tool to use against the lawyer. As a result, she and Daniel end up working together to rescue Sara and her grandmother from the crime lord’s clutches.

In the end, Ana’s arrest compels Detective Torres to conduct an extraction operation for her family, saving them from Macario’s captivity. Furthermore, the mother goes on to cut a deal with the authorities that confirms everyone’s safety. In doing so, she ensures that Daniel is also a part of this deal. Ana herself agrees to testify against Paco and Macario to secure a witness protection deal for herself and her family. Furthermore, she compels Torres to extend an identical deal to Daniel. This means he has the option to run away from Cambados and start a new life, with Ana and Sara by his side. However, in order to do so, he would first have to burn down his past life.
If Daniel wants the witness protection deal, he has to agree to turn his back on the Padin organization and even testify against his own family, if need be. Naturally, this puts him in an impossible moral dilemma. He has to choose between his family, his father, his cousins, and his childhood friends, or his other family, Ana and Sara. In the end, the choice is difficult, but Daniel makes it anyway. He refuses to betray his father and the rest of the Padin clan and chooses to stay behind in Cambados. Although he doesn’t mean to abandon Ana and Sara in the process, this ends up being the conclusion regardless of his intentions. Even so, as he parts ways with the woman he loves and his child, he promises to see them again. How he intends to keep this promise remains to be seen.
