How to Get Away With Murder: Where Was the TV Show Filmed?

The jaw-dropping law procedurals of ‘How to Get Away With Murder‘ keep your adrenaline pumping, and the end of every episode leaves you spellbound. The show revolves around Professor Annalise Keating, who is a law teacher and also a partner at an established law firm, who gets caught up in an aberrant murder along with her students and is forced to deal with its dire consequences.

Its depiction of court trials and methodologies is so intense that at times, as a viewer, even you might start reconsidering your own career choices and give a master’s degree in law a thought. Not to mention, Annalise Keating, played incredibly by Viola Davis, is one of the most inspiring fictional characters out there. That being said, if, like us, you’re a big fan of the series and you’ve been following it since its first season, you must be wondering where its filming took place. Well, here’s everything you need to know about its filming locations.

How to Get Away With Murder Filming Locations

As you would already know, ABC’s ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ is set in Philadelphia, but like many other shows out there, its actual filming took place in an entirely different location. The show was predominantly filmed in Los Angeles, California. The production of the show began on May 21, 2015, and soon after this, Shonda Rhymes, who is the executive producer of the show, announced on Twitter that its second season is in full swing, and Peter Nowalk and his writers are already mapping out the storyline for the next season.

One particular location from the series that almost every fan would be about to recognize is Annalise Keating’s beautiful victorian home which also serves as her law office. The grand home is actually located at 1130 W. 27th St, Los Angeles and is a part of the North University Park Historic District. It is situated on the northern side of the campus of the University of California. The entire neighborhood of this home has been spotted several times in other popular TV shows and movies. Just around the corner, located at 1163 W. 27th St, the Miller and Herriott House was used as the filming location of the season 4 Halloween episode of ‘Modern Family.’

Almost all the exteriors of Annalise’s office were filmed at 1130 W. 27th St, but many of the scenes depicting the interiors of the home were set on soundstages at Sunset-Gower Studios in Los Angeles, which is apparently where even ‘Dexter‘ was filmed. Much of the action of the series is also centered around a fictional Philadelphia University in Pennsylvania called Middleton University. This is the university where Annalise teaches “Criminal Law 100.” In real life, all the external scenes showing this university were filmed at USC itself.

The exact location where the “Middleton Law School” signboard can be spotted is actually the Bovard Auditorium at USC. Surprisingly, the introductory law lecture that you see in the initial moments of the series has actually been shot in Olin Auditorium at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Other filming locations of the show in Los Angeles include Doheny Mansion, a rental studio called Riverfront Stages, Los Angeles City Hall, and 642 N. Plymouth Blvd.

Here’s a tweet posted by one of the fans of the show, who luckily got a picture clicked with Viola Davis:
