We all have loved the whodunit mystery stories penned by Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Films that have a whodunit plot at its center typically keep you hooked till their end credits start rolling.
Whodunit films have also created a niche for themselves where each scene has to be staged in a way so that the tension keeps building up until the perpetrator of the crime is finally revealed. The latest film which has managed to enthrall both critics and audiences alike with its intense whodunit story is ‘Knives Out‘. Written, directed, and produced by Rian Johnson, the film premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival to great critical acclaim. Besides its genre, the film gathered some initial due to its star-studded cast which comprises of Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and Christopher Plummer among others.
The story of ‘Knives Out’ centers around the murder of a crime novelist called Harlan Thrombey (Plummer), who invites his family to his home on his 85th birthday, wanting a reunion of sorts because of their strained relationships with each other. However, Thrombey is soon found dead by his housekeeper and the family is thrown in complete disarray.
To investigate the crime committed, the police, along with a private detective called Benoit Blanc (Craig) step into the scene. Blanc conducts a series of interviews with all the members of the Thrombey family, along with their hired help, and these interviews go a long way in revealing to us the undercurrents that are in play within the family, along with some of their dark secrets. As it happens in most whodunits, someone among these people present in the house is the person behind this murder. I will not reveal who the killer is — you can read about it here — but just talk about the film’s end credits.
Does Knives Out Have After Credits?
End credit scenes have become a thing now, especially after their popularity in the MCU movies. However, you can rest assured that ‘Knives Out’ is a film that will not keep you waiting till the end of the after credits because it does not have an end credit scene in the first place. You can leave the theater when the end credits begin, but do keep in mind that the killer is revealed in the last few moments of the film. If you are restless and don’t pay enough attention to every detail, your experience with ‘Knives Out’ at the theater might not be that fruitful.
The good news is that the film has a happy ending, which means that you will be able to come out of the theater smiling. Also, the film wraps up all the mysteries so well, that you will hardly have any unanswered questions.
