Modern Love Season 2: Everything We Know

Based on – and named after – the long-running weekly column of The New York Times, ‘Modern Love’ is an anthology rom-com series that focuses on a different short story in each episode. Written by John Carney, the stories explore love and its related emotions in all its complicated and heart-achingly beautiful glory. Daniel Jones, editor of the ‘Modern Love’ column, whose blogs established the premise of the show, serves as a consulting producer.

The series was met with an overwhelmingly positive response by fans and critics alike, and if you’re wondering if there is another season in the cards, here’s everything we know about ‘Modern Love’ season 2!

Modern Love Season 2 Release Date

‘Modern Love’ Season 1 premiered on Amazon Prime Video on October 18, 2019. All the eight episodes, bearing a runtime of 30-35 minutes in length, were devoured by fans as soon as they dropped. Consequently, in less than a week after the first season’s debut, Amazon renewed the show for a second season on October 24, 2019.

The head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke discussed the renewal with Variety. “Since its debut just last week, the reaction to ‘Modern Love’ from viewers has been incredible,” she said. “It’s a show with so much emotion and warmth – every episode touches the heart in a different way. We’re so excited we’ll be able to bring our global Prime Video customers more of the beautiful stories of romance, friendship, and family from Modern Love.”

There’s no premiere date set in stone as of yet, but the second season was reportedly slated to release in 2020 itself. However, the COVID-19 derailed the production schedule, along with that of movies and TV shows around the world. It has reportedly resumed filming in September 2020. Therefore, in all probability, ‘Modern Love’ season 2 is expected to release sometime in early 2021.

Modern Love Season 2 Cast: Who is in it?

Season 1 features a slew of an extraordinarily talented ensemble cast including Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, Jane Alexander, Gary Carr, Sofia Boutella, Olivia Cooke, Tina Fey, Brandon Victor Dixon, Andy Garcia, John Gallagher Jr., Julia Garner, Cristin Milioti, Brandon Kyle Goodman, and Catherine Keener among many others.

Since it is an anthology, there is a chance that the viewers might get to see some of these faces slipping into different characters than what they did before. As for the fresh faces in season 2, we’ll just have to wait for an official announcement.

Modern Love Season 2 Plot: What can it be About?

‘Modern Love’ Season 1 is an emotional roller-coaster ride as it took its viewers through different facades put on by love. A young woman (Cristin Milioti) whose unplanned pregnancy and layered friendship with her doorman plunge her into a new life of infinite possibilities; an attorney (Anne Hathaway) suffering from bipolar disorder who grapples to hold onto people in her life and let them in on her struggles; a dating site CEO (Dev Patel) who’s helped many find love, but is himself pining for an ex.

Witnessing how these stories gratifyingly weave together in the season finale is a cherry on the top. We might expect a handful of other such hard-hitting stories in season 2. Carney, the writer of the show who also wears director and executive producers hat on top, divulged his views on season 2. “Being given a green light to proceed with ‘Modern Love’ is a great opportunity for us to continue to tell stories of love while opening up the series into new cities and worlds,” Carney said.

He elaborated, “The possibilities are truly endless. Subsequent seasons can really branch out and dig deep into what it means to love in this complicated world. It’s incredible news for everyone involved in the series, and we are dizzy with possibilities moving forward.”
