Watch Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes in ‘The Loudest Voice’ Trailer

Showtime has unveiled the full-length trailer of the upcoming limited series ‘The Loudest Voice.’ Russell Crowe plays the role of Roger Ailes, former head of Fox News in the intriguing trailer, which showcases the two sides of Ailes through Crowe’s stunning transformations. ‘The Loudest Voice’ explores Ailes’ meteoric rise in political and media circles as a power broker and his fall after the sexual harassment accusations, reports THR. The plot also follows his reign at Fox, during which the fledgling network became a massive media force to reckon with in American politics.

According to Showtime, ‘The Loudest Voice’ is based on Gabriel Sherman’s bestselling book and chronicles Ailes’ last decade at Fox News. The media baron was at his prime as “Republican Party’s de facto leader” at that time. “Television,” says Russell Crowe’s Roger Ailes at the beginning of the trailer, “the most powerful force in the world,” and visuals substantiating his statement follow.

The trailer also shows Ailes groping Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, played by Naomi Watts. “He berates me constantly,” she says in desperation, “He’s a bully.” Later, the trailer reveals her screaming inside an elevator, alone. The cast also includes Sienna Miller, Seth MacFarlane, Simon McBurney, Annabelle Wallis and Aleksa Palladino.

The series, which is based on the book ‘The Loudest Voice in the Room’ by Gabriel Sherman, touches the key events during Ailes’ tenure at Fox News. The timeline reportedly picks up from the start of his television career, the launch of Fox News in 1996 and the controversial sexual harassment allegations that dethroned him.

It was Watt’s Carlson triggered the slew of sexual harassment allegations against Ailes. She sued him and Fox News in 2016, alleging Ailes fired her after she said no to his sexual advances. Though the suit was settled out of court, the events culminated in his resignation from Fox News. Moreover, other women also turned up with serious allegations against Ailes.

Other Fox News employees who appear in the series as characters include former press chief Brian Lewis, played by Seth MacFarlane and media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, played by Simon McBurney. Sherman and Academy Award winner Tom McCarthy, who is known for ‘Spotlight,’ co-wrote the first episode. Kari Skogland, who is known for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘ and ‘Game of Thrones‘ fame Jeremy Podeswa direct various episodes of the series.

Crowe, McCarthy, Alex Metcalf, Jason Blum, Marci Wiseman and Jason Gold of Blumhouse Television, Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions, Kari Skogland, and Padraic McKinley are the executive producers. The series is a co-production of Showtime and Blumhouse Television.

In one of the stunning scenes in the trailer, Crowe’s Ailes reveals his dream plan for Fox News, “We’re going to give them a vision of the world, the way it really is, and they way they want it to be. If we can do that, they will never change the channel.” With an apparently menacing look on his face, he adds, “People don’t want to be informed, they want to feel informed.”
