Ahead of the release of ‘Captain Marvel‘ on March 8, 2019, Marvel Studios just dropped a featurette, on their official Twitter account, that is filled with previously unseen scenes from the upcoming movie. The short video shows various sequences from the film and intersperses it with interviews with the cast members, movie directors, the executive producer and the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige. You can check out it out below.
Before Brie Larson zooms into our theaters as Carol Danvers or Captain Marvel, we are made privy to a series of behind the scenes interviews to show how the people involved with the project feel about it. Annette Benning, who has four Academy Award nominations and acted in films like ‘American Beauty‘ said she never expected to be part of the Marvel project, and to be doing something like this. She plays Supreme Intelligence in the movie. Gemma Chan who plays Minn Erva described her condition as being over the moon when she found out about her fellow co-stars who would appear in the film with her. Jude Law, who plays the antagonist Yon-Rogg, likened the situation to being invited to a party where you know you are in good company. Samuel L. Jackson, who reprises his role as a younger Nick Fury, explained how actors knew that excitement, drama, and humor were all present in the film. The protagonist Larson simply said how working with Jackson was like a masterclass in itself.
Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck spoke about how the actors they were working with were all legendary and the amount of fun they had in bringing the cast together. Johnathan Schwartz, the executive producer, was also all praises, saying how the actors were passionate about the film and helped to bring it to life in an extraordinary manner. Feige noted how actors liked playing in the Marvel Studio’s sandbox.
While we hear these snippets of insight, we are treated to the visuals of Danvers being accepted and trained as an elite Kree soldier. We meet her team and get a glimpse into how she gained her powers. Soon the scene shifts to earth, where Danvers must try and stop a Skrull invasion. For those unaware, the Skrulls are a race of shapeshifting aliens and Danvers also fought them as a Kree soldier, since the two races have been locked in a war for some time. Naturally, once Danvers arrives on earth and starts her heroics, she draws the attention of Fury. Upon meeting, Danvers impresses him with her powers and the two seem to make a pretty good team. While certain shots give us a peek into her past as a fighter pilot, the visuals end with a shot of Danvers reveling in her power as Captain Marvel, as she takes down spaceships and seems prepared for several rounds of fighting.
How will Captain Marvel Affect the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Captain Marvel has been hailed as the most powerful character yet, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the MCU. Thus her arrival is bound to shake things up. While ‘Captain Marvel’ will introduce us to the character for the first time and showcase the extent of her powers, the true test will come when she tries to help the Avengers reunite and take down Thanos, the Mad Titan, and reverse the effects of his catastrophic finger snap at the end of ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, when ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ arrives in theaters on April 26, 2019, and marks the end of the current phase of Marvel movies. Needless to say, fans will be waiting with bated breath for both Marvel films.
