The Postman Always Rings Twice is a 1981 American crime drama and the fourth film adaptation of the 1934 novel of the same name by James M. Cain. Bob rafelson directs the film and stars Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange as the leads. The film is a about a sensuous wife of a diner/gas station owner, and a drifter who sparks an affair and later conspire o kill the husband. The film is shot through with a grim and gritty emphasis, best realised by Nicholson’s dirty appearance. Jessica Lange as the wife is sexy and ravishing as the object of attraction. It is a heated-up drama about sexual passion and obsession that is steamy and suspenseful.

5. A Perfect Murder (1998)
A Perfect Murder is a 1998 American crime thriller film directed by Andrew Davis and starring Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Viggo Mortensen. Despite the name changes and rewriting of the plots, the film is a modern remake of the Alfred Hitchcock hit ‘Dial M for Murder’. The film follows the wife of a multi millionaire who is secretly having an affair with a young struggling artist. Her husband soon finds out and sets out to commit the perfect murder. Michael Douglas’s performance is creepy and is capable of making one uncomfortable. His characters slow descent to insanity is amazing to watch. The set design and cinematography are stylish and is created suitably to the tone of the film.

4. Little Children (2006)
Little Children is a 2006 American drama film directed by Todd Field. It is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta, who co-wrote the screenplay with Field. It stars Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Connelly and was screened at 44th New York Film Festival. In the film the lives of two lovelorn spouses from separate marriages, a registered sex offender, and a disgraced ex-police officer intersect.
The film earned 3 Oscar nominations including best actress for Kate Winslet. Little Children is a film anchored by great performances from the leads as well as the supporting cast. The warmth and humour of the film despite its bleak subject is a pleasant surprise. Films with themes of Infidelity is always twisted and unsettling but it is also compelling.

3. Body Heat (1981)
Body Heat is a 1981 American neo-noir erotic thriller film written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan in his directorial debut. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner and Richard Crenna star in the film. Body Heat focuses on a woman who has an affair with a small town lawyer. She later peruades him to kill her rich husband. Body heat is neo noir thriller at its best with its stylised direction and cinematography. The cast are excellent in the film with Mickey Rourke shining in the supporting role. It is a film you can watch over and over again and you’ll still find new things on the table. The score in the film is also special and is clearly one of the aspects of the film.

2. A Walk to the Moon (1999)
A Walk on the Moon is a 1999 American drama film starring Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen, Liev Schreiber and Anna Paquin. It was set against the backdrop of the Woodstock festival of 1969 and the moon landing of that year. The film focuses on a young housewife whose world is turned upside down when she has an affair with a free-spirited blouse salesman. It was very well received upon its and released especially Lane who was awarded with an Independent Spirit award nomination.
A Walk on the Moon is a very well crafted character driven film which thrives on its well-built characters. The pacing is correct and the script is very well written. The performances are believable and make the characters more relatable to the audience. Cinematography is good and the film captures the 60s as well as any great movie set during the era.

1. Fatal Attraction (1987)
Another film in which director Adrian Lyne continues to do what he does best, destroying marriages. Fatal Attraction is a 1987 psychological thriller film that stars Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and Anne Archer. It went on to receive Six Oscar nominations that’s included Best Picture, Best actress and Best supporting actress.
The film centres around a married man who has a weekend affair with a woman who refuses to allow it to end and becomes obsessed with him. It is gripping from start to finish with a strong concept at its base. The performances are phenomenal and the cinematography should not be overlooked. This is a fine thriller right here.
