If we tend to look carefully, we shall see that folklores in many places across the world, mention witches and their magical powers, with which they tend to cause great harm to whoever they want to. In the middle ages, many women in Europe were accused of being witches and as a result, were burnt at the stake. The Netflix original series ‘Luna Nera‘ tells the story of such an incident that happens in Italy.
A midwife called Ade and her grandmother are accused of being witches, and even after they try to escape, the elderly lady is caught. Just when she is about to be burned, a group of mysterious women appear out of nowhere and stop the burning with a magical chant. But the group of local witch-hunters is not about to give up easily. With great production design and some solid performances, ‘Luna Nera’ is a compelling watch for fans of supernatural drama shows. 7. Shadowhunters (2016-2019)
Clary Fray is the central character of this Freeform original series, based on ‘The Mortal Instruments’ by Cassandra Clare. Despite possessing superpowers all her life, Clary comes to know about the same when she turns 18. She discovers that she is a Shadowhunter, a human with special abilities, with which she can take on demons and other supernatural forces from the netherworld.
After her mother gets kidnapped, Clary joins a group of Shadowhunters in order to bring her back safely. Intense visuals and a solid premise are the reasons why ‘Shadowhunters‘ has become one of the most talked-about supernatural shows in recent years.
6. The Magicians (2015-)
A Syfy fantasy series, ‘The Magicians‘ centers around the adventures of one Quentin Coldwater. When the show begins, we see him getting admitted to Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, a school of magic. However, his friend Julia’s application to the school is rejected and she has to learn magic from some other source.
As he studies more and more about magic, Quentin begins to understand how it reflects all the things he has read about this world till then. While the series begins with a magic school, it is also a brilliant adventure story with amazing special effects and interesting characters with whom you will fall in love in no time at all.
5. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018-)
This Netflix original series follows the adventures of the eponymous character who is half-witch and half-human and has equal connections to both of these worlds. As she tries to maintain a balance between the two, Sabrina realizes that certain forces of the magic world are becoming a threat to the humans she cares about. Despite being about a supernatural world, ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘ does delve into modern issues with equal sincerity.
4. The Originals (2013-2018)
‘The Originals‘ is a spinoff of the highly popular TV series ‘The Vampire Diaries‘, and centers around the adventures of the siblings Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah. These siblings belong to the very first family of vampires in history. The story follows them as they gear up to take control of the city of New Orleans which was originally under their rule but now, has been taken over by a protege of Klaus. The series beautifully connects up with ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and bolsters its superior writing with strong performances by the cast members.

3. Grimm (2011-2017)
Set in the modern world, ‘Grimm‘ is the story of a police officer called Nick Burkhardt. He realizes that he is a member of the family, which has produced huntsmen called the Grimms whose job is to protect the earth from the nefarious creatures of the netherworld.
The creatures he is up against are known as the Wesen, and one among them, Monroe, proves to be Nick’s ally. Nick also has, beside him, his trustworthy partner in the police, Detective Hank Griffin. ‘Grimm’ combines the aesthetics of a procedural show with the unpredictability and charm of the supernatural universe, thus essentially giving us the best of both worlds.
2. Midnight, Texas (2017-2018)
‘Midnight, Texas‘ is the story of Manfred Bernardo, a psychic, who is advised by the ghost of his grandmother to find the eponymous town if he wants to have friends and stay safe. Since Manfred wants to escape his past, finding the town of Midnight and seeking refuge there is highly essential for him.
Once he finds Midnight, he realizes that all sorts of creatures who have been thrown out of their communities have found shelter in this town. Midnight starts becoming the haven for all the people who are discriminated against by their peers, thus giving the show a solid political subtext.
1. Supernatural (2005-)
This long-running supernatural fantasy series centers around the adventures of two brothers who set out to kill all the monsters and demons of the world, who have the potential to harm human beings. These brothers are motivated by the death of their mother at the hands of one such creature. It was actually their father who started off this trend, but now he has gone missing.
Will the brothers be able to find their father and take revenge upon the demonic entity which was responsible for their mother’s death? The chemistry between the two leading actors and some genuinely scary moments have helped ‘Supernatural‘ become one of the greatest shows of its genre.
