Based on the eponymous novel by Sue Hecker, Netflix’s ‘Burning Betrayal’ or ‘O Lado Bom De Ser Traída’ is a Brazilian romantic thriller film directed by Diego Freitas that revolves around Babi and her long-term partner Caio. ‘Burning Betrayal’ was filmed in its entirety in Brazil, especially in the cities of Ilhabela and São Paulo. As per reports, production on the mystery film got underway in October 2022 and wrapped up in less than two months, in December of the same year. Ilhabela, Brazil
For shooting the first part of ‘Burning Betrayal,’ the production team set up camp in the city and archipelago of Ilhabela, which lies in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Brazil’s State of São Paulo. In particular, the area around Ilhabela Litoral Norte Avenida served as one of the primary production locations as the filming unit lensed several pivotal sequences, both interiors as well as exteriors, on location. Popular for watersports like scuba and free diving, Ilhabela is surrounded by shipwrecks underwater, with six of them open for visiting via diving.
São Paulo, Brazil
After wrapping up the shots in Ilhabela in about five weeks, the filming unit of ‘Burning Betrayal’ traveled to the mainland — the city of São Paulo — for the purpose of shooting. One of the bike ride scenes involving Babi was taped on location in the popular Octavio Frias de Oliveira bridge, which is commonly known as Ponte Estaiada. The high-rise buildings, local landmarks, and other modern architecture, such as the Obelisk of São Paulo, the Altino Arantes Building, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Assumption and Saint Paul, the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo, and Museo do Ipiranga, can be spotted in the backdrop of multiple exterior shots.
As for the interior scenes, it is possible that they were recorded on a sound stage or two of one of the film studios located in and around the city, a couple of them being Cinematik Studios and Hangar Studios.
