‘Ghost Draft’, the sci-fi thriller, is making some smart additions to its cast. J.K. Simmons, who won an Oscar for ‘Whiplash’, and Betty Gilpin, the two time Emmy nominee best known for ‘GLOW‘, are in talks to join the film alongside Chris Pratt. Yvonne Strahovski, known for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale‘, is also starring in the movie.
The upcoming project is being helmed by Chris McKay, who last directed ‘The Lego Batman Movie’. Zach Dean and Bill Dubuque have written the script for the movie, which is expected to start filming in September and will mainly take place in Atlanta and Iceland. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Jules Daly, Adam Kolbrenner and David Goyer are on board as producers, while Rob Cowan is the executive producer. Matt Grim is overseeing ‘Ghost Draft’ which is being financed and developed from the outset by Skydance. Paramount is onboard to distribute the movie.
The plot of ‘Ghost Draft’ is set in the future where humanity happens to be losing a war against aliens. In order to turn the tide, scientists decide to draft soldiers from the past to fight the war for humanity’s survival. Pratt is set to play the role of a man who must come face to face with his past if he hopes to save the world. While not much else is known about the plot, we know that J.K. Simmons will play the part of Pratt’s character’s father. Details of Betty Gilpin’s character remain under wraps for now.
As far as Gilpin is concerned, she has been in the spotlight recently. Her popular show, ‘GLOW’, returned for a third season on Netflix. Her upcoming Blumhouse thriller, ‘The Hunt’, has been canceled in the wake of mass shootings in the USA, as we reported earlier. Recently, Gilpin was seen in ‘Stuber‘, the Fox comedy. She has also re-teamed with the director from that project, Michael Dowse, to make an upcoming Netflix comedy, ‘Coffee & Kareem’. The show stars Ed Helms and Taraji P. Henson. Betty Gilpin also stars in Sony’s reboot of ‘The Grudge’.
As for J.K. Simmons, he has recently been a part of several shows on television, including ‘The Counterpart‘, which is a spy drama airing on Starz, and ‘Veronica Mars‘ on Hulu. Soon, Simmons will be seen on the big screen, starring in the crime thriller ’21 Bridges’, opposite Chadwick Boseman.
