Marion Cotillard to Star in ‘Annette’ with Adam Driver

Marion Cotillard has joined Adam Driver in ‘Annette,’ an English-language romantic musical from director Leos Carax. Charles Gillibert, who is known for Kristen Stewart-starrer ‘Personal Shopper,’ produces the movie under the banner CG Cinema. According to a Variety report, Cotillard and Driver play a star-crossed romantic couple in Hollywood in the movie.

‘Annette’ reportedly revolves around a stand-up comedian who lost his opera singer wife in a tragedy. He finds himself trapped in the void created by his wife’s demise. His two-year-old daughter is the only consolation for the man’s ordeal. ‘Annette’ also unites the rock band Sparks and legendary music producer Marius de Vries, who is known for ‘La La Land,’ ‘Moulin Rouge‘ and ‘Cats.’ The band will compose original songs for the movie.

CG Cinema produces ‘Annette’ in association with Tribus P Films of Paul-Dominique Vacharasinthu. French-German channel Arte, Kenzo Horikoshi of Japan’s Eurospace, Fabian Gasmia for Germany’s Detail Film, and Geneviève Lemal and Benoît Roland from Belgium’s Scope Picture & Wrong Men also join the project as co-producers. International sales are handled by Kinology in collaboration with Logical Pictures. .

Annette’ was announced four years ago with Adam Driver in the lead and Leos Carax as the director. Rihanna, Rooney Mara, and Michelle Williams have been attached to the female lead during various stages of development over the years.

Cottilard has dropped out of Jessica Chastain’s spy thriller ‘355’ recently. The French actress will next be seen in the role of producer for Flore Vasseur’s documentary ‘Bigger Than Us.’ According to reports, the documentary follows An 18-year-old Indonesian teenager named Melati Wijsen, who is a campaigner to ban plastic on her island Bali.

Adam Driver recently had a memorable Cannes night when his latest film ‘The Dead Don’t Die’ directed by Jim Jarmusch opened the festival on Tuesday. His upcoming movies are ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ and an untitled Noah Baumbach feature. Both the movies will hit theatres by the end of this year.

‘Annette’ also marks director Carax’s English-language debut. His previous movies include the 2012 flick ‘Holy Motors,’ ‘Mauvais Sang,’ ‘Les Amants du Pont-Neuf,’ and ‘Pola X.’

Producer CG Cinema is associated with the Olivier Assayas directorial ‘Wasp Network.’ The upcoming drama, which features an ensemble cast including Pedro Pascal, Édgar Ramírez, Penélope Cruz, Wagner Moura, Gael García Bernal, and Adria Arjona, has wrapped shooting in Cuba.

Amazon releases ‘Annette’ in the U.S. CAA Media Finance brokered the deal with Amazon for the project. The movie is expected to start filming in August.
