5. A Walk to Remember

One of the most notable features of Tangled was the song ‘I see the light’ that features in the famous lantern scene. It was sung by Mandy Moore. Every time Rapunzel broke into song, it was a welcome voice that we all heard. Mandy Moore made Rapunzel the bouncy, ever excited girl who sings to make her hair glow. How easy is it to picture her talking to Pascal the chameleon or telling Maximus the noble horse to sit? A Walk to Remember is a heart numbing story in which Mandy Moore is the lead actress. The movie will undeniably move even the coldest of hearts to tears. It is certainly a delight to watch Mandy Moore singing ‘Only hope’ years after the movie is released.

4. Brave

Brave is Disney’s love letter to the quote ‘Well behaved women seldom make history’. They took the words girl power and made a movie out of it. Starting with Tangled, Disney is breaking stereotypes. Princesses no longer sat in high castles wearing pretty dresses, sewing and chattering away and dreaming of how they will find their one true love. They took matters into their own hands. When they wanted to travel the world, they did and when only when they wanted to, they stopped. They never paid much heed to the ongoing drama about a prince and his first kiss. Brave is a testament to such princesses who did not care for how they looked and how they carried themselves. Merida, like Rapunzel, stepped out of her castle and went in search of her destiny instead of waiting for Prince charming to rescue her and that is why Brave finds its place in this list.

Kiki’s delivery service came out in 1989 and is highly relevant still. Her talking cat Jiji will remind you a bit of Pascal the chameleon. Kiki, like Rapunzel sets out with Jiji on her broomstick, as every witch traditionally should. She settles in a seaside and starts a delivery service. Along the path, she meets beautiful people who restore the viewer’s faith in humanity. It is intricately written to appreciate everything good about this world and to warm the hearts of the ones who watch it.
