Everything We Know About Bad Moms 3

Films about friends always raise our inner camaraderie and compassion. Movies about old-time friends make much more impact due to their nostalgic elements. And comedies featuring adult friends have unlimited potential, since they have the capacity to translate into both critical and commercial success. ‘Bad Moms’ is one of the most surprising comedies to do critically and commercially well. Co-written and co-directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the film stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn (in the roles of Amy Mitchell, Kiki and Carla Dunkler, respectively), as overworked and under-appreciated moms who are pushed beyond their limits. Miffed by their continuous obligations, they ditch their “expected” responsibilities to experience long-awaited freedom, fun and self-indulgence, which create the wonderful hilarity and comedy that define the tone of the film.

‘Bad Moms’ released in 2016 to positive reviews. The film scored a moderate 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is credited to the comedic performances and chemistry between the three leads. The film grossed a profitable $183.9 million against a budget of $22 million. The success of the first film spawned a sequel titled ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ which saw the three actresses reprise their roles.

However, now the three women have to deal with their mothers – Ruth Redmond, Sandy and Isis Dunkler, essayed by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines and Susan Sarandon respectively. The sequel follows the interaction and altercation between the two succeeding generations which create the narrative of comedy and amusement. The second movie was also directed by the duo of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and scored points on their raunchy jokes and the performances. Like ‘Bad Moms’, this one too was a commercial success, grossing $130.6 million against a budget of $28 million.

With the combined success of the two films, the production company STX Entertainment has shown an interest in producing a spin-off, a television series and a third film which would form a trilogy. Though the spin-off film, conveniently titled ‘Bad Dads’, was delayed after being announced, we are still interested in a third film. With the camaraderie shared between the three actors, a trilogy would be wonderful. Although a third film has not been announced as of yet, we can speculate upon the possible future. So, here is everything we know about the yet untitled ‘Bad Moms 3’.

Bad Moms 3 Plot: What is it About?

The narrative of both the films revolves around the adventures of the three characters. While the first one was just about the three women, the second film included their moms to create a layer of comedy. In a similar manner, the third film could also venture into another hilarious and raunchy adventure. Given the reception of the three veteran actors of the second film, the makers might just bring in the first generation with the present to create another comedy. They could also take the opportunity to introduce new characters by merging the possible casting of ‘Bad Dads’ to showcase the funny disagreements and quarrels between the two genders. The tone and narrative of ‘Bad Moms’ are shaped quite similarly to ‘The Hangover’ trilogy and the ‘Daddy’s Home’ duology. So, like the two films, ‘Bad Moms 3’ would most probably bring in new talents to share the screen with the leads to create an ensemble.

Bad Moms 3 Cast: Who is in it?

Mila Kunis starred in two films since the second ‘Bad Moms’ film, both of which were comedies. She is busy with the comedy-drama ‘Breaking News in Yuba County’, which is being directed by Tate Taylor. Kristen Bell is busy with the sequel of ‘Frozen’ which is in its production stage. Kathryn Hahnhas not signed any new project since voicing the role of Doctor Octopus in the Academy Award-winning ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018). She has completed filming the HBO comedy ‘Mrs. Fletcher’ whose release date has not been announced yet. For the third film to work, these three actors would need to be free for filming, Given their work structure in the present, Kunis, Bell and Hahnhas certainly look free to come together for ‘Bad Moms 3’. While the three actors would need to come together for the third film, the makers could also follow up on the sequel and continue the characters arcs of the characters’ mothers, i.e. Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon.

15-time Emmy Award nominee Christine Baranski is not involved in any new film or television series this year. Cheryl Hines too has not signed or starred in a film or television show since 2018. Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon has just finished filming the crime comedy ‘Going Places’, which is directed by John Turturro, and has signed up ‘Blackbird’, a drama where she will share the screen with Kate Winslet and Mia Wasikowska, which is in its post-production stage. These six actors have been the face of the two films and can certainly make a comeback for the addition. However, what remains to be seen is if the production company would sign up some new names to go forward with a new story arc.

Bad Moms 3 Crew: Who is behind it?

Although nothing has been mentioned about the crew, seeing that both the films had the same people in all the departments, it would suffice to say that the third film would certainly see the same people work, unless and until they are busy with some other film or television series. Scott Moore and Jon Lucas have always worked together since Steve Sarr’s comedy ‘Rebound’ (2005) and last wrote and directed the comedy film ‘Lexi’, which is scheduled to release in 2019.

American film composer Christopher Lennertz scored both the films. He has a number of projects which either have released or are being filmed in 2019. Lennertz is also scoring for ‘Stargirl’, a coming of age film which is being produced by Walt Disney Pictures. American cinematographer Mitchell Amundsen last worked in Brian Henson’s black comedy crime film ‘The Happytime Murders’ (2018). Other than that, there is no mention of the cinematographer signing any new film.

Bad Moms 3 Release Date: When will it premiere?

‘Bad Moms’ released in the month of July, 2016, where as ‘A Bad Moms Christmas’ released in November, 2017. Even if the Bad Moms 3 gets greenlit now, it might take at least a couple of years of production and marketing time. So, optimistically, we are looking at 2021 release date for ‘Bad Moms 3’. Of course, for that to happen the third film needs to be commissioned first. Stay tuned to The Cinemaholic for latest updates on ‘Bad Moms 3’.
