Lionsgate has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming murder mystery ‘Knives Out.’ The star-studded first look introduces a whodunnit premise in which Daniel Craig combs through a cobweb of threads and hints to catch the killer! The trailer also features Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Ana de Armas, Toni Collette, and Don Johnson. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, who is best known for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and ‘Looper,’ ‘Knives Out’ is billed as “an original modern-day American whodunnit.”
The plot centers around a family gathering that goes terribly awry when the mighty patriarch (Plummer) dies under mysterious circumstances. Detectives Benoit Blanc (Craig) and Troy Archer (Stanfield) enter the scene while the family members, who are not allowed to leave the mansion, go through an awkward limbo.
The investigators dig deep into the family dynamics and question each member that includes Alex Robinson (Evans), Marta (Armas), Linda Robinson (Lee Curtis), and Morris Robinson (Don Johnson), among others. As the investigation progresses, the cops find themselves in the eye of the storm of twisted family secrets kept by a bunch lunatics.
In April, director Johnson compared the movie with the murder mysteries of Agatha Christie at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation. He also added that the movie has “a Hitchcock thriller-type twist.” ‘Knives Out’ is hailing from FilmNation Entertainment, Media Rights Capital and Ram Bergman Productions.
The movie marks Craig’s first release since the 2017 heist-comedy flick ‘Logan Lucky’ directed by Steven Soderbergh. His upcoming projects include the long-awaited James Bond film, which is provisionally called ‘Bond 25.’ The production of the movie is underway in Jamaica. Eon Productions will release ‘Bond 25’ on April 8, 2020.
‘Knives Out’ is Chris Evans’ first outing after bidding adieu to his iconic Marvel character Captain America in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ earlier this year.
Rian Johnson’s upcoming projects include the ambitious new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy which marks the beginning of a new phase for the franchise. His last ‘Star Wars’ flick ‘The Last Jedi’ met with seemingly polarized reviews while some critics hailed it as one of the best ‘Star Wars’ movies in the history of the franchise. The director took a short break from his long schedule with back-to-back ‘Star Wars’ projects to make ‘Knives Out.’
For Lionsgate, the movie is a crucial card on the table as the studio had a weird year at the box office so far. While movies of high stake like ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Long Shot’ sank without a trace,’Five Feet Apart,’ ‘Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral’ and ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ emerged as surprise hits. Lionsgate will release ‘Knives Out’ in theaters on November 27, 2019.
