Scooby-Doo! Where Are You? These words strike a chord in the hearts of most people, taking them back to their childhood days of watching Mystery Inc. solve cases with tons of humor and loads of cuteness. The franchise has been active since 1969 and given birth to a huge number of TV shows, movies, comics and other forms of media. In 2014, Scooby-Doo’s movie series was rebooted. The franchise has had a couple of theatrically released movies so far. The upcoming animated movie, ‘Scoob!’ will be its third.

‘Scoob!’ is an animated movie that will serve as the origin story for Scooby-Doo and his friends. Origin stories hold a special place for popular movies and franchises. Fans love going back in time to discover how their favorite characters became who they are. Hence, it can be said that premise of ‘Scoob!’ holds great commercial promise.

Scoob! Plot: What is it About?

‘Scoob!’ presents the origin story of Mystery Inc. as well as their biggest challenge to date. It looks like the movie will have two parallel narratives: one in the past and one in the present. The movie will highlight how Scooby-Doo met Shaggy and how they befriended Fred, Daphne and Velma to form Mystery Inc. The team soon faces their biggest challenge: of attempting to stop the summoning of the ghost dog, Cerberus.

Scoob! Cast: Who is in it?

The animated movie features a bunch of talented voice-over artists who have essayed various characters from the movie. Firstly, Scooby-Doo is voiced by the American actor and voice-over artist, Frank Welker. He is a prolific voice-over performer who is most recognized for voicing the characters of Fred Jones and Scooby-Doo for the franchise. Welker has lent his voice to Fred for almost every Scooby-Doo project since the franchise’s inception. However, Welker started to voice Scooby-Doo only after 2002. That is not all. He has also voiced Soundwave and Megatron in the ‘Transformers’ franchise. Moreover, the character of Nibbler on the animated sitcom, ‘Futurama’ was also voiced by Welker.

The character of Shaggy is being voiced by the American actor, writer and comedian, Will Forte. Forte is known for creating and starring in the sitcom, ‘The Last Man on Earth.’ He had worked as a writer for ‘That 70’s Show.’ He has appeared in movies such as ‘Nebraska’ and ‘MacGruber’ and has been a cast member on ‘Saturday Night Live.’

Meanwhile, the younger version of Shaggy is voiced by Iain Armitage. The child actor rose to fame after playing young Sheldon Cooper in the comedy, ‘Young Sheldon.’

The character of Fred Jones for ‘Scoob!’ is not voiced by Frank Welker, like it generally is. This time, Zac Efron lends his voice to the handsome and slightly bossy character that can be looked at as the leader of the group. Efron fast-tracked to stardom after playing Troy Bolton in the ‘High School Musical’ series and has appeared in several commercially successful movies since then such as ‘Baywatch’ and ‘Neighbors.’ The child actor, Pierce Gagnon has voiced the younger version of Fred.

Moreover, Gina Rodriguez has lent her voice to the character of Velma Dinkley. The American actress of Latin-American origin is renowned for starring in ‘Jane the Virgin’ and movies like ‘Deepwater Horizon.’ Ariana Greenblatt has voiced the younger version of Velma’s character.

Amanda Seyfried has voiced the character of Daphne Blake. The actress is widely recognized for her appearance in ‘Mamma Mia!’ and its sequel apart from films like ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘The Big Wedding.’ Mckenna Grace has voiced the younger version of Daphne’s character.

Moreover, Tracy Morgan of ’30 Rock’ fame has lent his voice for the character, Captain Caveman. Kiersey Clemons voices Dee Dee Sykes while Mark Wahlberg and Ken Jeong are also a part of the movie’s cast.

Scoob! Crew: Who is Behind it?

‘Scoob!’ is directed by Tony Cervone. Cervone is a television writer, animator and producer currently working at Warner Bros. Animation. He formerly worked at Nickelodeon Animation Studios and has directed multiple television movies for the channel.

The movie’s screenplay is written by Kelly Fremon Craig. The American filmmaker is best known for directing, writing and producing ‘The Edge of Seventeen.’ The screenplay was written based on a story by Matt Lieberman.

The production companies attached to the project are Warner Animation Group, Hanna-Barbara Productions, 1492 Pictures and Atlas Entertainment. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing the film.

Scoob! Release Date: When Does it Premiere?

‘Scoob!’ is scheduled to release on May 15, 2020 in the United States of America. It was originally scheduled to release in 2018 but was pushed back. Nevertheless, there has been adequate excitement around the movie and why not? It will mark the return of one of the most beloved fictional dogs and teenage detective teams.
